In my experience with the 30-06, H4350, H4831SC, Staball 6.5, and Varget have been the best consistent powders from 150-200 gr bullets. That Staball 6.5 is an impressive powder if you can get your hands on it.
Willing to share any secret sauce .30-06 with staball recipes?

30-06 always calls to me. I own and regularly shoot .223, 6cm, 6.5cm, 6.5prc and my beloved 25-06, but I always end up taking a 30-06 to hunt. Recoil without a can on is more of a push than a punch, muzzle blast is middle of the road nothing to complain about. My 30-06 rifles are 3/4 moa easily and hit steel at the range as good as the little 6mm does…. Just rings the bell bigger. Nothing wrong with a .308+P

How do you hit at 800 yards with those rainbow trajectories and sailboat BCs?
Don’t you know only Fudds let friends practice fair chase and keep shots within a quarter mile?

How do you spot your crippling gut shots when you make a mistake on your wind dope with that horrendous recoil? And isn’t your shoulder out of action to lift your phone up to document a wound channel for us? That’s why we are out there, after all.

Do you have a Sherpa to haul that anchor for you? Must be nice to be in the 1%. Keep that shit away from this hardcore DIY backcountry forum. I’d rather see $2k sunk into restocking and rebarreling a Finnish budget rifle to get it down to 5 lbs to know you were a legit working class pleb like the rest of us.

I bet that thing is only good for scraggly southern coyote hunting….didn’t you know there is an inverse relationship between bullet diameter and wounding? …..Ask me how I know, I dare you (pretty please do, it’s what I live for)

(I’m having fun, pleas don’t take this seriously, I am a card carrying tikka .223 owner putting together a 6 arc mini…God save the Form and the bounty and inspiration she provides)

Edit: I forgot to add photographic evidence…. Phew! That was dangerous.

One hour and only one like!?!?

C’mon guys I figured that many sweet burns against this Fudd would earn me at least 1k posts worth of group think reinforcements to keep my heart warm for a few days.

I fail to see where the 30-06 is such a beast in the recoil department, some of you guys need to get away from the 243s and 6.5s my go to gun for eastern woodland white tails is a 760 Remington game master pushing 180 loads either factory’s or hand loads been using this combination going on 55 some years. Put a lot of Bambi's in the freezer with it. Even laid a few down with a 300 win mag, tried a 338 win mag one year just too much for a white tail.
I agree. Weird that recoil is what they fear. Especially recoil as mild as a 30-06 puts out. I seldom notice recoil when hunting, heck most of the time I hardly hear the gun go off.

When I think of all the deer and antelope I have shot with various 150 grain flat based spritzers from my 30-06 I don't really feel that I ever needed high BC tipped match bullets. It's true I never shot at any of them at more than 450 yards. I use the sleeker High BC bullets in smaller bores to maintain energy farther out and the increased wind resistance is nice but I still don't shoot at game animals any farther than 450 yards. That is after all a far piece and pretty easy to get that close and closer. It is hunting and not shooting isn't it?

I could not imagine the 30-06 ever leaving someone disappointed, it is my all-time favorite caliber! On occasion I will shoot a smaller caliber but I will always have 1 30-06 around.

For two decades I shot an out of the box no mod Ruger tanger wood stocked 30-06. I shot remington green box 165s and had a Bushnell trophy 3-9x40 scope. I killed many animals with it every year. It rode on swamp buggies with wood rifle racks and in gun boots on atv’s on rough terrain. It was hunted in cold and hot, dry and wet humid conditions over long 5-6 month seasons.

Then after I got internet and started getting on forums much to my surprise I discovered my rifle , scope , chambering and ammo was not up to the task. So now I am doing the same thing with many different expensive rifles, scopes, chamberings amd premium ammo but with a lot less money in my checking account. I kill about the same amount of game every year as back then but dang I look great doing it……

And now , for your listening pleasure I will sing “Oh Lord its hard to be humble”.

Seriously I enjoyed every minute researching, buying putting together new rifle setups. Was it necessary?
I don't think so. Disclaimer: I did upgrade the scope on my old ruger at some point to a VX3 3.5-10x40.
I didnt kill any more game with hit but it was a little easier to look thru than the Bushnell trophy. (The Bushnell held zero for a five year stretch with no adjusting).
