Cut to 18” and suppress. It makes the 30-06 into a mild shooting rifle.
What suppressor is that? I’ve done a ton of research since yesterday. I didn’t know I could get one that covered most of my rifles. I’m looking at the Scythe Ti. Curious if cutting that barrel down that far hurt velocity’s much?
Nice Eland? By the way

I was in a similar boat. I hunt out West and went with a 6.5 prc. I would prioritize getting a suppressor. It really helps with recoil and general shooting enjoyment.

I would use the back Friday barrel sales to help decide on a new 6CM barrel or a takeoff 6.5CM barrel plus the chop and thread.

If a 22” barrel 30-06 shoots a 150gr at 2925fps, an 18” barrel is likely to do 2800-2850fps. No big deal there. As the 7mm PRC shooters say, an easy correction in the elevation turret! Lol 😆

It’s my dad’s rifle, and it’s wearing a YHM Resonator. Great suppressors, but I would absolutely go with the Scythe Ti that you mentioned. I picked one up and it has definitely become my preferred can.

Velocity is just under 2600 with 178gr ELDX. Velocity loss was as Deere Man described, just gotta dial a bit more. It runs out of velocity just past 500, but he doesn’t shoot past 400, so it ended up being a perfect rifle for him.

My first vote is get a suppressor and have someone load you lighter recoiling ammo.

Next vote get a 6cm barrel here: https://www.getoutlier.com/barrels/cart

And buy a barrel vise and action wrench.
You’re in for the cost of a new gun, and have 2 guns (your existing 06 barrel and the new 6cm barrel), and the ability to put on new barrels when needed.

If you can’t install your own barrel, and won’t load down, option 3 sell gun buy what you want.

I have a T3X lite in 30-06 pretty much stock. Just sick of the recoil. I also have a X bolt 7prc I love, i shoot it well and the recoil Hawg brake works great- Im looking for a shorter deer all around eastern woods gun I may suppress. I want to try a 6 or 6.5 creed maybe? Or something in that range. I know all the Tikka’s are long action I believe- is it worth it or should I just buy a new rifle and sell this?
I know the tikka stock sucks for recoil and I could do a brake on this gun but I don’t want to loose my hearing if I forget ear protection on a snap whitetail shot-

A 6 CM or 243 barrel (takeoff or prefit) is the way to go. The only reason to avoid the take off barrel, they are almost always not threaded.

Suppressors are the future. I have a very light X Bolt Mountain Pro in 6.8W. The recoil without a brake is substantial. With my Dead Air Nomad, it is very manageable.

Here's a couple for you:

Dilligient Defense Wolf Hunter and a tikka 243 with 8 twist barrel. Leave it stock or get it chambered to a 243ai for cheap.

Dilligent Defense Enticer S is another great can for 30cal and smaller. The scythe is okay but not worth the premium in my mind but the form factor is great. I own the wolfhunter and a Scythe.
