.25 Cal (Quarter Bore) / Big Game Success - 25 Creed, 25-284, 25-06, 25 PRC, 25 SAUM

Picked up a used 26” Proof CF 25sst barrel for $400. Had the smith ream it out to a B chamber and instal on a tikka action. Mounted it in a krg bravo stock and threw a spare nikon black fx1000 on it for now. Ran a quick pressure test with n570. Then loaded up 5rds with the 131ACE this anfternoon and shot a group at 100. Wind was 10-12mph from 3cl, 100*. There was 17 antelope hanging out 150yds behind my target. I completely botched the 5th shot to the right because they kept walking directly behind target and I was constantly making sure they were clear. The 338ultra is pretty quiet. They def don’t hang around like that with my other cans on. First 4 shots were .47”. Running at these pressures I can get 7-8firings on a single pc of brass. Looking promising so far. Ran the same load in my 26” rock creek A chamber.

Isn't B chamber smaller than A to accommodate the change in brass dimensions? Or is that only the Max?

Either way, that's rippin and looks like a shooter!

With the 25SST the B is just slightly larger, not sure about the others. Can’t remember by how much but I have the specs for both A&B at the house. Thanks, next time I get a chance I’m going to see how it does at distance.

That might just be the tipping point!
Probably not as complex as it sounds, but the list of brass prep components is pretty long and sounds expensive/tedious. I did a quick search on google and a guy can still get standard FL and seater dies in 25 WSM and you're only losing around 2.5 grains of capacity while staying in that "medium" action domain. Also good brass available from Norma and Lapua to name a couple.

Looks like you need a 25wssm die for initial neck down. Then after firing resize with a fl bushing die and seat with a 257wby seater. One more step. I’m sure if the cartridge takes off WTO will have formed brass and dies made like they do for some of their other wildcats.

Necking down adg 270wsm brass would be another good option with very little velocity loss. If you know someone with a reamer set up for the heavy’s.

If I was doing another big 25 today it would probably be the 25Mega. Dies and brass ready to go and it’s a simple neck down. WTOs 25-7prc seems just as easy just need the additional 25wssm die for initial neck down.

And the 257wby running peterson brass is ready to go option. Reamers, dies, brass and all.

I just went wi

I just went with redding bushing 7prc dies and ran 2 bushings, maybe only 1 i dont remember now and that's all I have done to size down and just been running the same bushing fl sizer and a 7prc seater with a 257 seater stem since.

I was wondering why they wouldnt just recommend changing out the the seater stem. And they said they were using the 25wssm die to to size the neck more but good to hear you can just buy a set of 7prc dies and be good to go.
