I don't know how many animals I have on my 25-06, but here are a few (shots from 100yd out to 450yd). Bullets used have ranged from 100gr TSX, 110 ELDX, and 115 BT; the 100gr Barnes being my favorite. If I could shoot the heavier BC bullets I'd try it. But for me, and the distances I shoot, I'm not sure they'd really be worth it.
Sorry I’m digging up the past here but how did you like the 110 eldx. I might give them a try in my weatherby this year

They were factory loadings and shot ok. I wasn't too impressed with the performance at the time. But I'm going through a mental crisis when it comes to bullet design/ performance lately (thanks to Rokslide and S2H:ROFLMAO:). So maybe they performed as they were supposed to. Current load is a 115Berger VLD, but I haven't put one through an animal yet.

Does anyone have any on game experience with 110gr eldx at higher impact velocity. I tried doing some searches but haven’t had much luck and I would like to give them a try on white tails out of my 257 weatherby

Somebodies gotta test em 🤷‍♂️

They'll work fine. I would expect impacts at high velocity will be pretty devastating, personally I would try to keep it off the shoulder best I could for meat damage reasons.

I’ve shot several white tails with them. They work just fine, violent expansion up close. If you shoot one thru the shoulders at less than100 yds you may lose a lot of meat. The 110 Tipped Game King ,110 Accubonds, and 115 Nosler BT are less frangible and may be a better choice for the impact velocities you can get with the Weatherby. The ELDX is very accurate out of my 25-06, and a great option for someone who doesn’t reload.

Well another one dropped by my 257 Roberts. Punched my deer tag for a young WT using a 115gr Nosler Partition. No drama, one round pass through at just about 100 yards. Quartering away got both lungs.
No pictures or necropsy photos as it was getting dark quick and needed to break it down to carry out.

I've been hunting with my suppressed AR and 77gr TMKs but took the Roberts for nostalgic reasons. My son walked up on the scene smiling and commented about having to dust it off more often.

As a Roberts shooter this makes me smile! Good stuff, congrats!

What’s the rifle? Scope?

Would anybody be interested in a 7 twist 20-22” proof CF blank .257? The smith I have used on my last couple of builds is considering putting in a custom order and I think the minimum order is 25. This would stabilize the 134-138 eldm-atips!

I think he’d sell the blanks or chamber and build a rifle. He’s fast, his communication is way better than any other smith I’ve dealt with, and his rifles shoot lights out.

Carbon or steel? I'd be interested in a steel.

These are our animals shot the last few seasons with my semi custom T3x chambered in 25sst.

2024 small 4x4 muley my 12-yr old daughter shot, 300 yards, 135 Berger, one shot, deer stumbled for about 20 yards

2024 5x8 I shot, 200 yards, 135 Berger, one shot, deer flipped over after about 20 yards

2023 6x6 bull I shot, 100 yards, 135 Berger, one shot, DRT

2023 6x5 my 13 year old shot, 200 yards, 135 grain Berger, one shot, DRT

2022 4x4 my 12 year old son shot, 300 yards, 131 blackjack, one shot, went maybe 10 yards

2022 6x6 bull my nephew shot, 175 yards, first shot in boiler through and through, elk was dead standing but had my nephew put an insurance shot in him, 131 blackjack, bull went only about 30 yards

2021 forky my 11 year old son shot, 175 yards, 131 blackjacks, one shot, deer went 75 yards, but it had a golf ball size exit and good blood trail. The smallest animal but went the furthest!

I had been floating some ideas through my mind. My thoughts were that the Howa Mini Action would be a good donor for a 25WSSM build. A Mini Action mini magnum was my vision. I tested my theory today and the case head is unfortunately the same size as the bolt face on my 6 ARC Mini Action bolt. That was kind of a disappointment. 😞

While I was at it, I loaded one loaded 25WSSM round into a Tikka SM magazine from a 270WSM I turned into a 6.5 PRC. I cycled the round in an action and it jumped right out of the magazine and rode up the feed ramp ready to be chambered. This gives me hope for a Tikka build for the 25WSSM in my future. Doing it on a Tikka action will only cost me a barrel if it doesn't work for me.

You may be able to find a new haven model 70 for pretty cheap. If memory serves those wssm actions were scaled to the wssm so if you had one you were stuck with that cartridge family.

Most of the M70 rifles I've seen available in the wssm cartridges have been heavy barrel target stock Coyote models. I'm looking for a light and short barreled toy. If I remember correctly, the wssm rifles had their own bolt spacing and there wasn't much for aftermarket support for them.

If I use a Tikka and the 25WSSM is a bust, I can just have it chambered in 25 PRC.

Ah, didn’t know about the bolt spacing. Be interesting to see how your wssm project works out.

18” would interest me.
