Oh my gosh. I'm simply amazed at the skill level of people. Mfllood3800 and Jordan are absolutely lethal.

Jordan's shots are awesome. There is a reason she kills big animals every year. I will wear my pack next time and kneel. I actually have killed more while kneeling I believe, just they way the set ups worked out. To be fully open and honest, I have had 3 days of perfect weather, no wind.
I'm getting more nervous each day, like I am up against John Dudley.
I know this isn't a competition, but I want to do well, in view of my peers.

Cold bow challenge day 1.

Max effective range 60 yards.

Intended game species is elk.

6” circle as a no-doubt kill shot.

Shooting Halon 32, 70 lbs 31” draw. First strings, 3 pin dual pointer Hogg Father, QAD rest, Tight spot, pierce platinum with 4 vane fletchings. Day one pulled it a touch right. No wind. First time trying this challenge, I’m really looking forward to it! Going to be a great learning experience.

Day 2

Straight after work. Grabbed my bow, walked outside and let it fly. I was a little sore from my workout yesterday, which was a great simulator to shooting after a few days of hard hunting. Felt great about the shot. Finished a touch left, but I think that shot will get it done! Slight wind into my back.

Day 3

Ahhhhhh!! Felt pretty good about the shot. Had a slight left to right wind, it may be a combination of that and I pulled the shot to the right just a touch. I can’t explain how bad I wanted to yank the arrow, walk back, and shoot again, but I’ll just have to wait til tomorrow! I think that it would have definitely still gotten the job done, but I can’t help wanting every shot to be within the circle! I am really enjoying checking on other’s posts. Some folks can really shoot!!

Day 4
Back in the saddle! Beautiful morning, 75 degrees, no wind. Felt really good when the arrow released and it hit its mark.

And that’s all she wrote. What a great learning experience. I really enjoyed looking at everyones equipment and how they shot. Thank you to RD and Rokslide for putting this on, as well as all of the sponsors for showing their support!

Day 1

MER - 70 yds
Equipment - HOYT CST 74 lbs/Tommy Hogg 3 pin/QAD/Tightspot/NO STABILIZER/CX Maxima 450/Carter quickie+

I moved to BC last summer (so no hunting last fall) and I took that time to experiment with no stabilizer. Solo sheep and goat backpack hunts demand ounce counting. Anyways I have found no difference using no stabilizer and a 11" 4oz b-stinger. I was a HUGE proponent of a good stab but man the bow feels so much nicer to carry around and the shooting seems not to have suffered.

Day 1: Shot felt just about perfect.

UV2UeXUl.jpg

Day 2: Perfect conditions. Pin was floating a little low but was able to hold off and get on target.

OMkiae2l.jpg

Day 3: Nerves got me. Had a bug crawl down my string and around my peep while at full draw. Held off like in a hunting situation then started thinking I should let down then thought about missing, so ya nerves got me. Need to calm myself and regroup while at full draw.

9EAuTFfl.jpg

Day 4: Beautiful evening. Shot felt pretty good but was fighting the pin a bit.

0bU9MyMl.jpg

Day 5: a touch after the sun went down

Day # 1. Bow that I'm shooting is a Mathews Halon 6. Black Gold Pure sight, QAD Ultra Rest, Maxima Red 350 arrows. Scott Silver horn Release. I've chosen 40 yards as my Maximum Effective Range Wind was right to left today, around 10 mph. Shot was standing, I should of countered more right for the wind.

Day 2, Calm winds, shot was taken standing, everything felt good about this shot.

Day 3, Calm winds this morning, shot was taken standing, released when my pin was a little low.
fcb672ff66226b58e0e293bb6d361cd0.jpg

Day 4, this one is hard to post, I changed out my stabilizer for something lighter, which proved to be a bad choice, just was not as steady as I should of been when I released. Shot was taken standing, light, to 5 mph winds from left to right. Hope tomorrow i have better luck!

Day 5, Difficult shot this morning!! Wind was blowing left to right, 17 mph. Shot was taken standing. Over all, happy with the shot, given the conditions.

Thank you , to Robby, & Rokslide for doing this challenge, was a lot of fun!! Hopefully we can do this again next year! Was defiantly a learning experience for me!!!

I watched the thread last year but did not participate. I did use it as a tool though getting ready for hunting season. I am going to test myself and push my limits. So here is my attempt, max effective distance 85 yards.

My equipment is:

Athens Archery Revelation 7 29” draw
Spot Hogg Fast Eddie
AAE DOA arrow rest
Quivalizer
Nock-on nock 2 it release
Bloodsport 2 arrows 300/.001 467 grains 15.5% foc
WPQf27hh.jpg

Day 1 May 7th negligible wind 70 degrees, released before pin was steady. Standing wearing AGC bino harness with 10x42 and rangefinder.
wcvDlPNh.jpg

Day 2 about 5mph wind left to right, I did not adjust for the wind just held as best I could on the orange dot. Kneeling with bino harness.
mAy01i9h.jpg

Here is a look through the rangefinder at the target.
6WXlqUQh.jpg

Day 3 So after working for basically 4 and a half of the last five days I was finally able to get home and shoot one arrow. Not being able to shoot for so long really amped up the pressure and I let down twice before letting the arrow loose. I was so relieved when I looked through my binos and saw that it was a good shot, the release felt good and pin float was surprisingly steady. Standing wearing nothing but clothes. I have to work tomorrow too so that will build even more pressure! I love this challenge.
5DkJsWkh.jpg

Day 4 I shot as soon as I got home from shift in the morning. Not really any wind, maybe a slight left to right. I was pretty nervous but the hold was steady and I did not have to let down. I am learning that 85 yards might be out of my comfort zone.
785xnc0h.jpg

I am gonna try and do a video for the final shot, not sure how this is gonna go since I have never posted a video before, we'll see.
Day 5 I am not gonna lie I was a little nervous getting the bow out this morning. I had made kill shots the previous 4 and knowing myself figured I was due for an errant shot. I took a really poor video and if you watch it I apologize for the quality, presentation and time. There is a long time spent walking to the target.

My goal for this challenge was to push myself and concentrate more on my shot sequence and forget all the noise in my head. I feel like it made me focus more instead of just letting em rip. I appreciate the opportunity to participate, and can't wait to incorporate this into my training more. Thanks.

Stabilizer - Fuse Carbon 10"
Quiver - Hoyt Pro Line Removable 6 arrow
Release - Spot Hogg WiseGuy
Arrow - Easton Axis 5mm 340 @28" - Hit Inserts & 125 grains up front. 3 blaser vanes & 5" wraps - 440 grains

Also worn:

Muley Freak Bino Harness w/ 10x42's

e02049c6fbafe7e4e2756a6ff35d6999.jpg

Details:

I just finished up setting up my sight for a "Trick Pin". For a + or - 3" "miss window". This puts my "trick pin" at 52.5 yards according to my software. Unfortunately I only have 50 yards to work with for the next couple months, so thats what I will be using as my max effective range. I will be holding dead on, which should give me a 1.25" high impact. I tested this a few times yesterday and found it to be pretty accurate. My target has a 2.5" center dot, which makes top center of the middle dot "perfect". I also consider the center insert of this to be my "kill zone" for a mule deer. If this trick pin works well, I may sight the remaining pins in as ranging pins or put them as extended ranges, depending on confidence.

I typically would have around 35 - 40 lb pack weight to simulate a full load, but I had knee surgery two weeks ago and the doctor gave me a 20 lb limit until further notice.

Day 1:
78cf62e1c9ab780835bd4165ae8d7e9d.jpg

8:15 p.m. on 5/5/18 (5 minutes before sunset)
Wind: approximately 7 mph 3/4 value left to right

Shot Correction: made approximately 2" correction left for wind - this seemed to be slightly less than what was required.
Shot Result: Shot felt good, impact was approximately 0.5" high and 1.5" right (NOTE: Made an edit here based on an clerical error (2.5" to 1.5") I actually got around to measuring it- Center dot is 2.5" across and 4 surrounding dots are 2" for reference.)

Looking forward to day 2! Thanks Robby for doing this again!

Day 2:
53d60a48e229ad589b3632e48249b14f.jpg

8:32 p.m. on 5/6/18 (10 minutes after sunset)
Wind: gusting to 15 mph from directly behind shooter

Shot Correction: None
Shot result: Shot felt great, but I let my aim point climb a bit above center at release. Impact was 2.5” directly high

Feeling a little humbled today, thought I would be stacking them in a little closer to my desired impact spot...

Day 3:

Added a photo of me with equipment above. I couldn’t stand it today and had to run home early on my lunch to get the shot over with...

70cdbf17b961f380a98c927295ce4191.jpg

11:15 a.m.

Wind: inconsequential

Shot correction: I really wanted to make this shot kneeling, but my surgically repaired knee still won’t hold weight 17 days post surgery. I drew back, but was too shaky without putting any weight on my front knee, so I had to let down. I stood up and waited about 90 seconds to regain my composure, then made made the shot standing.

Shot result: shot felt nice and I watched the arrow find it’s mark. Hit spot on my 1.25” high of center desired impact.

Feeling a little more confident going into day 4!

After watching last year I am in this go around.

Bow:
2010 Hoyt Alphamax 32/ 70lbs/ 28.5 draw weight
5 arrow tight spot
MBG ascent verdict 4 pin
QAD rest
6” bee stinger stabilizer

T3GuGXY.jpg

Arrow:
Gold tip Kinetic Kaos 340
75 grain brass insert
100 grain thunderhead
Finish weight 505 grains

I’m choosing 60 yards for my effect range and plan on doing the challenge in just 5 days regardless of weather so the next couple shots will probably be in the rain. Will be shooting at a 3d deer target that we have in the yard.

XMBJz9q.jpg

Day 1 5/7
7:30pm no sun or wind, about 2” high of where I was aiming but would have got the job done.

2bmgeLb.jpg

Day 2 5/8
2:45pm just got home from work, nice sunny day no wind

fjPnFmx.jpg

Day 3 5/9
4:25 slight breeze left to right and I felt like I pulled the shot a bit causing it to hit further back then I would like.

aqH3Xlh.jpg

Day 4 5/10
3:25 no wind but was a downpour so I shot and waited till the rain just stopped to retrieve arrow and take pic.

KckHxtl.jpg

Day 5 5/11
3:00 no wind but my peep was rotated so only had about half the sight in the peep and stuck it right in the shoulder

yHES8m2.jpg

That concludes my 5 day challenge which was going good till today’s shot but I plan on doing this more through out the year.

Day 1

I am new to bowhunting and very excited about the Cold Bow Challenge

I estimated my max effective range as 45 yds

Gear: PSE React 65Lbs, QAD rest, IQ Sight, Nock2it release, Victory 3DHV arrows (fletched myself 4 fletch aae promax)

This shot was taken wearing my pack and bino harness. 72 Degrees no wind.

Day one

attachment.php

Day 2 I dont know what I did here but it was 4 inches high and 1.5 left. I was hoping for all five in the center circle

attachment.php

Day 3 79 degrees view obstructed from kneeling so I shot again from standing. Same gear as previous shots. My pin was floating badly, should have let down. At this rate I will be off the target completely by day 5

attachment.php

Dat 4 86 degrees, same kit as previous shots. This shot felt really good and resulted in a good hit, back on track with one more day to go

attachment.php

Day 5 and the final shot. 83 degrees with gusty winds. The shot felt pretty good on the release but I know I have not practiced enough in the wind. This showed to be true with a poor shot outside of the kill zone. Thanks for putting this on I learned a lot. Pretty amazing shots by others in the challenge.

38VVocY.jpg

Wearing contacts
Mid 80's, slightly overcast, no wind
Seated in a chair @ 25 yards
e1WuUDa.jpg

Lessons Learned:
Great challenge! By day 3 I could feel the pressure to make a good shot building, which helped simulate a hunting situation to a small degree. Overall I'm very happy with my shooting, but I probably need to limit my shots to 20 and under in a hunting situation. All 5 shots were within a paper plate at 25, but that's shooting in shorts and a t-shirt in perfect weather. I've got some work to do before fall!

Day 1
Shooting a Sage Samick 45lb recurve. Arrows are a craigslist special gold tip traditional 500, this one still has all the fletching. 15 yards, no wind, kneeling in crocs, should be wearing a belt but I'm not.
View attachment 71796
Day 2
No wind, shooting in work clothes standing on a turquoise aluminum patio chair. Rushed shot. My dogs still love me though.

Day 3
5mph gusting wind directly right to left. 82 degrees and I am hungry. Set up as a quartering away shot. My best hit yet, the dogs think I am awesome, the neighbors think I'm weird
0c80c12bff9e03fef821bbd510468bf5.jpg

Day 4
5-10mph gusting swirling wind. Shooting from a crouching position wearing a red shirt and blue shoes feeling like Captain America.
aefa960c5514036cff28f5147a2b4790.jpg

Day 5
No wind, only 1 cup of coffee. Moved target to shoot through a brush window from a slight crouch. The shot felt good, had downward deflection at the top of the window and resulted in a bad hit. Time to fish.
Thanks Rokslide!!!
