Yes. But the 2nd@64 yards wasn't needed.
dude, I came into this thing thinking you were being mistreated by a bunch of jealous bullies. Somehow you've switched me over to their side. I'm hoping it just a 64 year old who doesn't know how the internet really works. Otherwise, you've gotta be an absolute handful of sand in the crotch to be around in real life.

After following this thread and studying the white mountain units past failures and successes, I have a couple of concerns
1. time Line, 3/4 of past years where unsuccessful in 1st week of hunting and returned for 2nd try ( op has a mule deer hunt running concurrently)
3. incredible long shots @ sheep when successful 400-500 meters due to lack of cover
4 . Altitude sickness, every single person I’ve followed got sick and had to end suffer or return for a 2nd or 3rd week of hunting

Yeah YOU have concerns, but HE doesn’t. Haven’t you heard of his accomplishments?
He’s planted more trees than Paul Bunyan chopped down, killed more deer than q beams, climbed more mountains than hiking boots, and let me tell you about his rifle!! When it comes out of the case, you can feel a disturbance in the force as if a great number of mammals just shuddered with fear.

Don’t believe me? Ask the OP. I’m sure he’ll confirm.

Instead of Chuck Norris jokes, we should start some psemach1evolve jokes.

Psemach1evolve gives the MOUNTAIN altitude sickness…

8 hours tiĺ sheep mandatory meeting, then 7 days till sheep opener. I know of 4/6 sheep's tags. Not at all concerned. Tag 1, 320lbs no concern. Tag# 2. 80 yo., Tag #3, never shot big game before. Ok game on.

Are you comparing / competing against the other tag holders? Like you think this is American Idol and you are going to “beat” the other hunters?

Don’t worry, I switch between the “old people on the internet are weird” and “this guy truly thinks we all should be jealous of him.”

When going to base camp , is silver canyon trail to white mountain rd still allowed?or does the guide have a different route to elevation? Can you camp or stay @ Crooked creek station?
these sheep hunts are a passion I have to live vicariously through
so every detail and every tidbit of the hunt is appreciated by the community

Silver Canyon was washed out this winter. Not sure if it is driveable yet or not. There are plenty of sheep in Silver Canyon area, even down low. I have watched rams, ewes and lambs within 50yds of the road at various times of the year. I know that the unit starts just a little north on the County Line, but this just shows that not all sheep are up on the top. The easiest route to the top has always been the road up to the bristlecone visitors center from Westguard Pass and then continue out the dirt road north. You could possibly come up the back side from Wyman, but that may have washed out also.

Crooked Creek station is another research station. At least the only people I knew that were ever allowed to stay there were .gov employees or students. The main road is gated a couple miles shy of Barcroft Station. The "hike" from the gate to this infamous guide base camp is along a 2-track dirt road. Yeah its got some elevation to it, but I see young kids under 10, and lots of older folks in their 70s hiking up there in the summer time. People even ride mountain bikes up to the top of White Mtn at 14k+. This is not some remote, mythical place deep into the wilderness that only a handful of people visit each year.

I have hunted deer up in the White Mtns quite a few times. I know where this amazing guide base camp at 12,800' is. And while there are sheep up high, not all sheep are up that high. It is a beautiful and stunning place! But this guy is an ego driven blow hard it seems. I have no idea where he comes up with his only 90 people in the world draw a desert sheep tag each year. I have a tag in NV this year, and there are a couple hundred desert sheep tags in NV alone. Yeah, they are hard to come by, but apparently this guy thinks he is some type of God.

I will say that this thread is pretty amusing. Loving the memes! Hopefully he can punch his tag without having a heart attack in the process.

Absolutely crushing the guy's hero status. Seems like 70yo and 320lb will be legitimate competition.

Nevada and Arizona give out over 3 times what he claims between the two of them but I am not nearly as good at math as the OP is.

I also couldn’t get my math to add up to the 400K to buy a tag for one either.

Damn... I just spent all this time catching up on this thread. And NOW you tell me there's an 80 year old doing this same hunt?!? Where's the thread on his hunt? I want to hear HIS stats!

He's probably been applying for 45 years. Hunting at 12,900 ft. Paid off your guide so they take him to the best ram first. So he can make a 1200 yard shot with his trusty 1964 mod 70 serial #124,000. Has shot 450 deer and planted 60,000 trees with his bare hands. 20,000 of which he just cut down and milled by hand to make another trophy room to contain all the animals on the hit list for this year. Oh, and did you hear he was on the cover of field and stream in 1960, and his wife's currently on the cover of Vogue talking about her Sports Illustrated shoot this weekend?

How was the guides “mandatory meeting”. Did they tell you where exactly they are hand holding you to the sheep?

I’ve hiked around those mountains quite a bit. It’s been about 10 years since I’ve been in that area and another 15 years since I climbed Whitney.

Bring lots of sunscreen and say hi to all the summer backpackers!
