I actually feel bad for the guy... he's probably just excited, but can't remember the name of the last 10 threads he made previously so makes another one. Then feels like he has to catch everyone back up to speed on the story.

I do hope you kill a stud of a ram bud. Take lots of pictures.

Decided to shoot my 1955 mod. 70, .270, vx5 leupold. My son will carry my new 6.5prc. Dad built this gun for me, I killed a bull in 1970, grizz, moose, bou and 300 deer. Super excited, mandatory meeting in sac. For the sheep. Camp@12,800 feet. Lost 20 lbs. Turn 65 in 4 days, this is my oil. Then burned 14 points for the best bow mulie unit in the state, same dates. Gonna get crazy in 2 weeks.
Excellent choice of firearm on your part.

He makes it sound like a mandatory meeting or orientation with F&G? I'm not familiar with the regulations.

Ca sheep hunts have a mandatory meeting with dfg
It used to be held in Southern California, Sacramento may be new or if there was a bunch of norcal tag draws

8 hours tiĺ sheep mandatory meeting, then 7 days till sheep opener. I know of 4/6 sheep's tags. Not at all concerned. Tag 1, 320lbs no concern. Tag# 2. 80 yo., Tag #3, never shot big game before. Ok game on.

IMO, not that you even care, is this is what is wrong with this place. It’s not a competition and I hope the 80 year old kills the biggest ram on the mountain. I hope Tag #3 shoots a ram right out from under you right before you pull the trigger. Why? Because they will appreciate the experience more than you. The 320 lbs guy, well it’s his choice to be 320 lbs and he has had plenty of time to prepare so I am indifferent to his situation.
Again, good luck.

I agree with you. I don't get the competition. It's not like there's one legal ram in those mountains.

Those other guys are probably sitting there talking about him saying "64 years old, drinks too much, old antiquated rifle"

I really hope that the 320lb guy is some 6'8" pro athlete of some sort that is an absolute beast of man.

The mandatory mtg. Was top notch. Problem with my hunt in 5 days, 72 feet of snow, water and feed everywhere, so sheep dispursed. This will be a grind.

As usual, I am called bs. Look up sierra snowfall. 72 feet.

You’re not hunting in the Sierra! You’re hunting in the Whites. They are in the shadow of the Sierra.

They definitely got a tremendous amount of snow in the Whites last winter too but not as much as the Sierra.

The issue up there are the winds. Strong winds blow the snow into deep drifts. And even in normal winters those drifts can last into August.

Drifts meam nothing. It's lots of water and feed everywhere. So the 400 sheep are spread out over 60 square miles. As I said, this will be a challenge.

Heading up wed. To scout, check zero@12k feet. I will punch this tag.

The bio dudes just did the same sheep count. 1/2. The sheep are low in the trees. So this will be a grind for a mature ram.
