Remington 870 in 20ga with a smooth bore slug barrel. My part of Arkansas was shotgun/ml. Never killed a deer with it but quickly upgraded to a 12ga cantilever 870 and stuck with that setup for several years.

What was your very first deer rifle?

Mine was a mossberg 500 410ga with a smooth bore barrel and iron sights. It’s a great grouse gun but not a deer killer. 2 minute of deer isn’t really good for me.

My very first rifle was handed down to me from my grandfather, which was a Win 94 in 30WCF. Up until me receiving this rifle I’d been hunting 8-9years and had only shot a fawn. Within 3 days of owning it I shot two bucks.

I love that rifle but it’s become more of a safe queen these days. I’ve come up spicy load using the Hornady 140gr Monoflex and leverevolution that I’d like to try one of these days.
I started out with the exact same thing mossberg 500 410 and then my grandpas model 94 that he bought new in 46.

My first was a Browning lever action in 243, and I regret trading it for a 300win mag because I was convinced I needed a bigger gun.

An old as dirt .410 single shot running slugs, then moved up to a Rossi lever action .357 mag until I was old enough to handle the recoil off Dad’s 80s model Rem 700 ADL .30-06… ages 5-13 for those 3. Never got any white tails with the .410 or the .357 though.

Side note: I still think that the old 700 of his kicks the snot out of me worse than any rifle I’ve fired since then including my last two .300 wm’s.

Might as well ask it in here, but I would like to get a shotgun for when we do deer drives. Feel like that'll be a little better to use than a 350 Legend. I don't need anything special and don't want to break the bank, so what would be a good starter shotgun for that purpose?

I bought a late 1990Remington M700 Stainless with the dbm feature. I never got to take a deer with it. Shortly after I bought it, I moved to CT which is essentially slug only. Like a moron, I sold it.

My first deer rifle is a Savage High Country in 6.5 CM. I still have it.

My current deer rifle is a 280AI I built on an Origin Action. I am leaving fit South Texas tomorrow morning to hunt with it for the first time.

I’d probably go it a Winchester SX4 if I were to go shotgun. But I’d rather use a go 450bushmaster in a AR than a shotgun. Rifles are better then shotguns.

First rifle I ever hunted with was a Mosin Nagant. First rifle I ever killed a deer with was a Savage 111 30-06. Still have the Savage, but the Mosin is long gone.

Mine was a mossberg 1550. Built on a Howa action with a removable steel magazine. Nice walnut stock,… those were nice rifles for the price of them
