Dunleavy: State to shed virus
Gov. Mike Dunleavy told reporters Tuesday evening the final phase in reopening the state from COVID-19 related closures will go into effect Friday morning.

This means all businesses, churches, libraries, museums, sports and recreational activities may open to 100% capacity Friday at 8 a.m.

Effective Friday May 22, 2020 Alaska is open for business:

Does anyone have confidence that Canada will do anything to lessen restriction before August? Heck some places have had like 5 cases and are still locked down. Pretty crazy with all the removal of restrictions from the US and Europe.

My guide said Alaska is easing up restrictions in June and my trip for Dalls is still going forward.

We need to remember. This is NOT law, it's a suggestion, a guideline. It's not like the State has guys with guns at the airport sticking people in quarantine when they show up. It does however make the powers that be feel good because the did something, or rather, told us to do something to save us all from ourselves. That said, don't fly into a village and think you'll be well received. There are still survivors of the real pandemic back in 1918 where entire villages were wiped out. Barrow survived because the locals met the planes with guns.

They had armed people around the village. I probably typed to fast saying planes. 21st century brain also. The point is, they guarded their village with guys with guns to keep outsiders out, they did it once and they still remember and there has been talk of others in other villages doing it again if need be. I do know the locals in Dillingham aren't too happy about bringing in outsiders for the fishing season. I know some folks there.

Regarding Canada, nobody has a clue. I've talked to a ton of outfitters the last two weeks from, BC to Yukon, to Manitoba to NWT. Everyone can speculate but no one has a clue as to what is going to happen come this fall. I've got a sheep hunt in the Yukon and my outfitter is not really optimistic that it is going to happen. Talked to another outfitter that said he thinks the Yukon is going to be a "go" this fall. What I did learn is that nobody knows anything with regard to this fall's hunting season yet.

I haven't figured out when/where/how they get people to fill out that "Mandatory Declaration Form" I know someone that flew in last week and they were never given that form. I know of another that drove up after snowboarding this winter and at the border US Border Patrol said "I'm supposed to remind you to self evacuate for 14 days" No Mandatory Form.

If I was an outfitter, I'd start being strategic and thinking of ways and proposals to get an exemption. Exemptions are being used for people like vets, doctors and mine workers. Any exemption worth a look will likely increase their operating costs as well.

Every day more summer activities and fishing/tourism lodges are announcing closures. The border will stay closed all summer.

The outfitters don't seem like a strategic bunch, or else they'd realize you can't operate here like the south - where building a kingdom and walls to keep people out are the norm. The new north works on consultation and consensus, something they are lacking, and at times like this you can feel the deep divide.

And my last point - donating meat shouldn't be your sole strategy. This isn't Africa.

Anyway, I think in the end you may see some hunts offered, but at higher prices to cover extra flights and fuel and logistics. Some may think it's not worth it and close up shop completely for the season.

I spoke with my outfitter today and told him if I had to drive to Alaska I would be there August 7th I have waited 63 years for this.

Its supposed to given by a BSO when they issue the 14 day quarantine order (verbally). The form is given to provide information, but the main 'order' is given verbally and then all information is recorded electronically. My guess is maybe the officer did not issue the form, however the quarantine order was still placed on the traveller. Hope that helps a bit. Was this in regards to entire hunting season or just the sheep season?
