@InkedElkSlayer I'd say two bulls (and one passed up) isn't too bad :D. Congrats!

5 miles (800') with Tiny Elvis- we waited until it warmed up a bit- today is the first day we've reached 30 degrees in awhile :D
I may still be the guide for the youngest, but I can no longer take credit for the oldest son’s kills. He has officially branched out, is totally independent, and is killing animals in his locations.
Over 10 days with the youngest was good. Found a very recent (and active) mt lion kill, also took him way up into some alpine that he’s only glassed in the past. A good opening week. Oh, and it went from the 70s to 4 with a wind chill of -14 within a few days.

Walked the rifle for 9 miles (2000') w/ a 25-ish lb pack. Snow made for some tough hiking.

this is for @InkedElkSlayer - busted my ass pretty good on the way down- steep slope + slick snow + slick bear grass = ouch!

I know man, it ain’t funny. I was always like a cat in the woods. Since I was 18, a big aspect of my job has been navigating and operating in mountainous terrain. The last few years, it seems like I have a big ass wreck or 2 each year. Last year, I can’t believe I didn’t break ribs on a fall. I have been hit hard before, but slamming my ribs on that log paralyzed me for a couple seconds. I bruised like Cro Cop round house kicked me, but nothing broke luckily.

Back to the WOD thread… this topic is the exact reason why I still lift fairly heavy for bone density and do balance, flexibility, mobility and yoga exercises. I firmly believe I would have had additional injuries over the years if it wasn’t for the above routine.

Pretty sure I'll have bruise or two, just about knocked the wind out me! I think Microspikes would have helped on the way down, throwing them in my pack as we speak.

Without a doubt being in decent shape helps w/ injuries- balance, strong core and like you said bone density and probably muscle density too

Backyard in work clothes in 28 degrees in Middle TN:

Sled drags 4x180 yards (ice fishing sled loaded with firewood. No idea how much it weighs but it’s enough for me)

Farmers carries w/premixed drywall mud buckets: one-handed 2x90 yards, 2-handed 2x90 yards

Dry practiced with muzzleloader during short rest periods since Sat is muzzy opener for deer

Yesterday I stretched out 20-30min both morning and evening trying to get my back loosened up

With a bunch of rain and snow coming in Thursday… Today, I got up at 0300 and had my youngest drop me off for a big walk thru of probably the most remote drainage around our area. 14.5mi, climbed 2500vert and descended 4000vert. Passed on a raghorn that ran around and spike barked at me for 10min. Also saw several small mulies harassing does. Videoed a Mtn goat too. The pic is a raghorn and little mulie in the same photo. It was a good day.
