Why is everyone selling their Vortex optics?

I've had spotters and binos from Vortex and Swarovski. I now have 12x50 razor hd's and a Swarovski 65mm spotter. As noted the Swarovski glass is better but it's not night and day compared to the razor. Honestly I got a good deal on the Swarovski spotter and wanted the weight savings over the 85mm Vortex. Optically I wasn't disappointed in the Vortex spotter at all.

I would be willing to bet there are more people on this forum that own vortex optics than any other brand. That is why you would see more for sale.

My experience with them.... Bought 3 new never opened spotting scopes, hd models. All three were defective. Had to return all three. Was forced to buy another brand. In my case, swaravski. Never looked back as far as glassing optics. I do use niteforce for rifle scopes for reapetability tried and proven track record. My real experience. Will never buy vortex producs again. Good luck....

more than any other category of gear "optics" are very subjective and each user with perceive hugely different results - For an optics company to come on the scene and attempt to "own" all categories is a might ambitious undertaking - A couple of years back I saw that the 15x Kaibab was getting rave reviews so for the price I jumped on a set and was not sorely, but disappointed just the same and sold them as the only 15x that's been a standout (there are 3) have all been of German/Austrian descent and I'm not quite there on spending what's required, close though - I doubt that many could go out and buy top line "any brand" in all optics needed for a well rounded gear bag and have the "best" in all categories, there are just some brands that are better at some things than other things - I also think, no I know, that as eyes get older they change (not "can" change but "DO" change) and with that the requirement to work well is gonna change too - Example: it's not fair to put a Leupold VX3 up against a Swaro Z-5 and then criticize either of them and there's more to a scope than pure "optics" as Leupold and now Swarovski, etc have proven with the lightened models now available, Leupold pioneered the lightweight scope concept then perfected it but now we see some top shelf Leupold scopes that are weighing near what older German scopes weighed, a lesson should be learned from observations like this .... Leupold also "invented" the real customer service in the optics business so why does Vortex get the rave reviews when they went to school on another company (and do it well but no better than the teacher) ? My eyes are nearing 65 years and several surgeries so they "see" differently than a 30 y/o pair and so on .... optics, above all other items, need to be chosen by each intended user and the older the user gets the more carefully things need to be chosen ... I M H O

The transferrable warranty might have something to do with it. It certainly adds to the resale value, and if you can sell your Vortex product for closer to what you paid for it, your probably more likely to sell it if you want to move up than someone with, say, Nikon optics, who will have to take a bigger hit on the resale price to do the same thing.

My maven b2s blew the viper HD's out of the water, but that's not comparing apples to apples. The Maven's are excellent at 1k.

I also have a razor 50 mm spotter. It comes in handy and I really like it.

I also have a vanguard endeavor hd 82 mm spotter. I love it as well.

I've owned a Zeiss Conquest scope, but now have a swaro z5 coming.

I think the Razor line is pretty good on bino's and spotters, but have no idea why anyone would buy a rifle scope. Just my opinion on those scopes. Seem way too heavy for the price.

I have a lot of Vortex. They are OK... Kinda... Their expensive stuff is nice but by the time you spend that much there's better brands that don't market 's warranty first then the product like Vortex. My current complaint with Vortex is the Viper HS LR rifle scope I have. For an optic in the $600, which isn't really high end, I'd expect better glass. A warranty doesn't do any good if you can't even see through the scope because it is so light sensitive.

On the plus side...

I got a pair of original 10x42 Razors I've sent in. They rebuilt the binos and replaced the lense covers.

But as far as a rifle scope goes, all my guns will wear Leupold or Nightforce.

My brothers new razors are really nice. I'd have to put his on a tripod to compare to my Leica glass. Handheld it's pretty close for my eyes.

agreed.i just got done shooting one of my rifles with a 4-16 HS LR. compared to my 2010? vintage 4.5-14x40 VX-3 CDS the gold ring wins every time. it does not have the big fancy turret, but it is nearly a apples to apples comparison and i give it to the leupold. like my viper hd binos and love my 50mm HD spotter though

I don't know where you get the idea that Nikon loses value faster than vortex.
I can sell my Nikon premieres that are 10 years old for much more than I paid. The Monarch scopes also value very well

Also, Vortex sells a lot of optics so there will be more for sale, proportionally thinking. I'm not selling my Kaibabs!

I love mine! I've got a pair or diamond back binoculars, a monocular, and a 11x33x50 razor. The razor is the only spotter I can carry without feeling like I have a spotter. I'm not a big glasser, but a combination of these three go with me when I'm out. I've also got a diamondback scope and a viper long range scope. I think that they all are a great value.

It seems that way looking at the classifieds, but I certainly haven't conducted a scientific study on the issue, but a transferrable warranty has to add value. I could be wrong though.

I actually own more Nikon than Vortex -- more Nikon than anything, actually, great stuff.

Only downside to Nikon is the parent company is anti-hunting. Doug with cameralandny is not allowed to sell Nikon rifle scopes because their Corp policy is if you sell camera gear they don't want you to sell the hunting line.

The only reason I sold my Vortex is the eye relief/eye piece positioning just didn't fit my face. The optics themselves were fine but it took too much fiddling around to get a good view which seemed to promote eyestrain and some frustration when needing a quick look or during long duration glassing. Kind of like boots, if they had fit better I would still own them.

I love my Vortex binos...but I scored a second pair and dont need two of the same powered binos hanging around. One of them had to go to the classifieds!
