What would you give up to save OTC opportunities?

Before I gave up general OTC in the State I live in as a Resident, I would fight to reduce NR opportunity in general areas up to, and including a reduction to ZERO NR tags being issued.
You’ll probably be dead before WY gives up OTC for res.

I've been a "rifleman"since childhood, I would rather hunt less often with less hunting pressure.
Population is growing fast, there is not enough room for everyone to hunt whenever they would like anymore. Restrictions and sacrifices are inevitable.

Ha ha restricting my rights to hunt on Federal property as a NR? My tax dollars go to funding and supporting the agency that is responsible for maintaining that land, and you think my ability to hunt it should be taken away simply because I don’t live in that state?!

Been discussed. You have no right to the game, it is owned by the state. Access to the land true, but not to hunt on it

Yes, exactly what I, the courts, as well as the law know to be facts...we don't have to let you hunt a single animal in Wyoming...or Montana...or Colorado or any other state you're a NR of.

You don't have a right to do anything in regard to a States wildlife other than the right to sing the blues when they cut off NR tags.

I'm really not concerned with OTC if it gives people a chance to hunt then that's Good 👍
I'd more concerned about the ballot box wildlife management being forced upon us, we all know it's an anti hunting agenda so why worry about some NR or resident hunting every year, because who knows in 5 to 10 years if any off us can hunt or if there is even a sustainable herd to hunt.

Just a random thought that came through my head while reading this thread. The federal government could close Forrest service roads and I could see that helping the population as access would be significantly restricted. It would reduce the pressure on animals. Not sure how that falls in with the initial question but it would help.

I like the idea of mandatory reporting and season closes once a harvest objective is reached. Would have to short seasons to only 1-2 weeks

Forest service could close the forest to all, nothing to stop them from doing this Sep-Apr if the desired, then tags really wouldn’t matter for most without private access.

That would really increase the pressure the first part of the season.
Yes, it would. That is why seasons would have to shorten. I don’t think success rates would increase though, and would probably decrease. Most people won’t or can’t hunt more than 5-6 days. You’d have some saying going early and some rolling the dice for later

Never been to Idaho, eh? Closed roads mean nothing to many.

It would be too much of a shit show with people trying to get cell reception to check the quota status. Also, think if you were a non res and you just drove out and got camp setup and then the unit closes the next day.
