What if something that was 'actually' real bad happened?

Based on current events can you imagine what things would get like and how fast that would happen if something really bad happened across the nation or world. The current situation may just be in its infancy which is also a scary thought.

I totally agree. Its crazy how rational thought goes out the window with so many the second some type of "hysteria" is present. I was just talking to my wife about this last night. The scariest part of all this is the possibility of total social unrest. Its so nutty it almost makes you feel nutty for not losing your head.

Out of the population of northern Italy what % of people have died?
Guaranteed it is under 1% probably 0.0_ fill in the blank.

Now that may not be good but it is far from really bad as I see it.

Last count in Italy was 15,113 cases and 1,016 deaths. 6.7%. In terms of total population, yes, the death rate is well under 1% (68 million people live in Italy currently).

The hard part is that nobody knows what to do, myself included. Logic tells you that its not that bad. What we are seeing may be saying something completely different. I generally dont play the what if game and just take it as it comes. Am I prepared for a couple weeks of inconvenience, yes. Am I prepared for this to spiral out of control and the world "ends", nope. I plan to take it a day at a time and do what I can. If I go out in the first wave, well its been a good run.

Out of how many millions of people that live there......I will shoot out a guess, 20-30 million. But lets say 10 million with 1,100 deaths.....

You're right. I edited my previous response when I realized you were looking at total population vs infected population. 68 million currently living in the country.

This hysteria is crazy. My Sister in Law is a Doctor at a major hospital in New Orleans, she does not seem concerned at all. She is pretty de-sensitized to death, but I would think if it was as big as some are making it, she would be a little concerned.

16 million were caught up in the original quarantine.

If I remember my history correctly the death toll wasn't that high in the opening month of WW2.

If it was an armed battle and 15000 troops were sent in, and 1000 died. I'm pretty sure that would be considered a disaster.

Just for perspective.

They are going to crash the world economy because of something that might kill less that 1% of the global population. What happens to the remaining 99%+ of the people?

That is nuts.
Maybe it is a play for a one world government?

World War II fatality statistics vary, with estimates of total deaths ranging from 70 million to 85 million. Deaths directly caused by the war (including military and civilians killed) are estimated at 50–56 million people, while there were an additional estimated 19 to 28 million deaths from war-related disease and famine.

There is also a pretty serious lack of knowledge right now.

My wife is an ER Doc at a major metropolitan hospital. She is as frontline as you can get. Roughly 25% of their staff has been isolated due to an exposure to one patient who came in with an infection and during their stay it became apparent they also had the flu... 1/3 of the ER docs and 25% of the ER nurses at that hospital are over 60 and it's a 10% mortality rate in people over 60. That's 50 people and possibly 5 could die.

I think if we had something like the Spanish flu pandemic (covid-19 is not) or 1930s depression with a dustbowl added in on it. I don’t think we would handle that as well as our ancestors did back then. I believe you see suicides skyrocket and people just snap, just totally lose it.
Not saying coronavirus is a great time but it could be a hell of a lot worse.

The veneer of polite society is a lot thinner then people would like to think. People are losing it right now. Imagine if your kids were hungry or needed some medicine...etc things could get western quick.
Fortunately for us we are a resilient bunch, the human race has made it through a lot worse and we will make it through this. Everyone just needs to keep cool heads and stop hoarding the goddamn toilet paper.

Could you imagine if we had to do a draft for the military and all the Bernie supporter type youngins had to go and defend our country. We would be so screwed, they would all be so offended by war.

This would take manbuns, "artisan" breads, and $40/lb organic coffee will be to the front lines though
