What did you do today to get ready for archery season?

Last couple days I got the backup bow built up from scratch and baseline tune. Built up half a dozen arrows for testing, and shot both bows this morning for baseline sight tapes. Need to keep shooting more....

My collection was was down to a couple recurves , but decided to bowhunt elk this year, and really didnt want to accept the compromises that come with trad gear. So i scored a deal on an old mathews switchback xt, (one of those i never owned when they were hot....this bow still rocks, even if it is slow.)

Only have my trad arrows laying around. 575 grains, 5" feathers, they all but fall out of the sky at 55 yards. Moved the target out to 70, then moved it back to 40. ;) Not quite there yet. Have some fresh easton 5mm on the way.

Also picked up a thumb release. So working on that. Only lost one arrow so far.

That switchback is still plenty fast, great bow.

Literally just spent all day looking at Google earth In a unit I drew in montana. I Never have hunted it. it's a archery/rifle tag though, So I got lots of time. So if anyone has hunted bulls in 700 hit me up with a pm 😅

Spent the weekend scouting a new area. Had heard numbers are down around there, they are not lying. Rifle tags are starting to pile up. Wyoming in October and cow elk in December. Find out next week about SD deer. 9 weeks until archery deer opens. I have the week off and intend to be there.

Working on refining my shot process and shooting with elevated heart rate. Feeling confident out to 60 with a solid range call. Time to get the broadheads out and put away the field points.

Just got back from the Beaver, Ut mountain archery fest - 3 days of shooting from 1 yard out to 112 yds, while hiking 4 to 6 miles each day with a pack at 10,000+ feet. IT was a phenomenal time but man, I am sore!

I'm a bit under the weather, but slowly started gathering my equipment and moving it towards a central location.

Well, I ended up with a paritonsillar abscess which has me off work and on steroids, antibiotics, and pain meds. Still slowly gathering equipment and organizing it. Packs today.

Working on correcting a few form issues. Finally have a good tune on my bow, should be shooting some broadheads by the end of the week. Did some scouting yesterday and was able to eliminate some areas I have had questions about for a while now and working on my fitness.

Spent the last couple days putting my pack together. 18.5# without water.

My season opens 9/1 so from here on out I will shoot and workout every day. Getting close.

I started consciously drawing then dropping my pin to the target as opposed to coming up. My misses were always low along with the some freezing under the target. Instant improvement but I need to ingrain that into my routine after nearly 40 years of the opposite.
