What did you do today to get ready for archery season?

I started consciously drawing then dropping my pin to the target as opposed to coming up. My misses were always low along with the some freezing under the target. Instant improvement but I need to ingrain that into my routine after nearly 40 years of the opposite.

Same. A recent thread showed my habit of doing the opposite might be contributing to low misses. I like it.

It was literally an epiphany. My low misses were especially bad beyond about 50 yds.

I just kind of had general low misses. It's a form of target panic I think. Consistent practice helps and coming down has made a huge difference.

Put on my new stabilizer and shot a dozen arrows sunday. Shoulder fatigue sets in very quick. lots of work to do before sept 1. Trying to shoot every other day. Working on lining up a local pro to put new strings on too.

3D season is over so I swapped from my 3D arrows to my hunting arrows. Also pulled off the double pin housing and put on my 5 pin.

Went out and shot and rezero'd with my hunting arrows. 520 grains vs 383 for 3D.

I'll put on a new set of strings this weekend and keep going.

Sucked up to the lady who does our scheduling. Explained how important hunting season is, how I use it to recharge and stay motivated. LOL. She seemed genuinely interested.

Practiced focusing on target harder, shot broadheads to 45, played around with stabilizer weights.

My wife knows hunting season is required for my sanity. It does put extra pressure to get things done around the house outside of hunting season though

Built some new 4 fletch Gold Tip Hunter XTs, got the bow tuned to the new darts, and started going on walks with my hunting pack fully loaded. Tomorrow I head to the grasslands and put some boots on the ground and practice a bit with the new saddle.

Got my South Dakota resident archery tag in the mail yesterday.

Working on stretching the toe box of my Danner Pronghorn uninsulated boots. Using the frozen Ziploc method. Second run today. First one worked but I want a bit more.

Last night took a trip to REI for kicks and giggles, Found a once used pair Salomon Quest 4D GTX boots for half of retail. Took em to public land and did a mini hike in them. They are awesome! Spooked a couple deer while on the trail too. Didn't really scout like I wanted to as OnX maps wouldn't load (User error) so I couldn't see the map, That and my Girlfriend decided to wear shorts and didn't want to trek into the woods. CAn't complain, Got new boots and headed into the woods!

Getting ready for a few seasons down the road.

She was nice enough to let me get a few shots in, too.

Shot, worked out.

Took my bow to the shop to have my peep turned.

Bought a full size Rhinehart bedded buck target for $75. Needed a can of spray insulation and half an hour of effort to be usable, but I'm really happy about it. Where I'm headed for opener I know a bunch of glassable beds. This will allow me to practice some very specific shots I know I will be presented with.

Tried to tear my ring finger off by hooking it on the chain link of our dog kennel when I flipped it to mow. It's not broke, but it sure ain't happy.

Six and a half weeks out.

Had my first session @ 60yds. Don't plan on shooting an animal at that range, but felt good to stretch my range
