Seroius question for you fear mongers how can you look at the real numbers and claim this is a catastrophe? Maybe you should run the numbers from the swine flu of 2009 and you will see what a joke the Corona virus is
You didn't answer my question.
But anyway, nowhere did I say anyone should be afraid, and they definitely should not panic but people should absolutely be vigilant and take appropriate measures.
As far as H1N1, it infected something like 60 million people in the US and had a pretty low mortality rate, it was a fairly large deal but it didn't end up being a huge deal.
It's also a completely different virus than what we have now so I'm not sure exactly what you are basing a direct comparison on so please explain.
The current projections I have seen (which could certainly be wrong though it's likely way more right than what us randos on the internet might come up with) we are looking at estimates of a final mortality rate of around .6% to 1% which is far higher than H1N1 or the regular ol' flu.
The key to whether it will end up causing a huge human toll is exactly how many cases we end up with, yeah we are at around 130 thousand or so now but literally no person in the know expects it to stay anywhere around that low.
One interview I listened to with a Johns Hopkins guy stated that it's not unrealistic to expect 800,000 deaths in America alone with best case scenario as this ending up about 6x worse than the regular flu.
I totally get it, things don't seem that bad RIGHT NOW and if this was all we are looking at happening then I'd be 100% on board with calling this overblown but when everyone who knows anything is saying that this is just the beginning then it's probably a good idea to listen to them.
No it's not going to be the end of human civilization but it's still likely to suck pretty bad for the next few months.
