Read that one slowly - he's agreeing with you.
Thanks Chris. I did read too quickly.

There is one advantage to a three position safety that I appreciate, and that's being able to extract a round without having to put the safety in the "fire" position. Again, the three-position safety is my preference for a couple reasons. That's all I'm trying to say.

Do they need to provide more information before barrel makers can provide prefits? Tenon Print?

In that sense prefits could be made for about any action - its the manufacturing tolerances of the tenons and bolt heads that will decide that.

One area the 307 might best the CA is the length of mag box. I think the CA was a true 700 clone, limited to 2.80". If it is nearly 3.00" like the Savage SA, that is a big enough improvement to attract a fair number of folks these days who want to shoot long, high BC bullets out of a "short" action.

2.97" in short action 3.95" in the long action. For those complaining about no short action magnum option I would bet that they are going to offer it eventually.

I reached out to Weatherby to see if they will be doing a mag bolt face SA version and this was their reply. Sounds like it's a maybe but in the future at best.

Thank you for contacting Weatherby. Currently the only bolt face option we have in our Short -Action Model 307 receiver will be the standard .470. We appreciate your suggestion for Short Action Magnum Bolt Face. We will pass this along to our Product Development team for their consideration.

Feel free to reach back out to us if you have any other questions, comments or suggestions,

Best Regards,

Jake

Don't think I said "every."

Why does it matter? Because Savage should be given credit for their innovations that have been copied by every other manufacturer. I admire companies that develop industry standard equipment. Those that just copy them, not so much. And yes, it is the barrel nut, floating bolt head and accutrigger. I'm not sure why you give the credit for those things to anyone else.

If they offer it in a SA magnum bolt face how will they be able to develop new, superfluous, rebated rim cartridges?

Nice gotcha. Well pardon me for the exaggeration and thank you for being the self-appointed forum police. Your mother must be so proud. Did you have a point other than correcting me?

I think the point is that none of us are always right. Especially me, sometimes.
I readily admit when I'm wrong but I don't think that was his point. His argument was to suggest that other manufacturers have the same features as Savage, suggesting they were nothing special. What he failed to recognize was that all those other manufacturers were copying Savage. Besides, having to chase down people's simple, meaningless mistakes is a sign of not being real confident in your position.

Thank you - she is very proud.

Yes. My point is, your claim is that most manufacturers have copied savage - I find that to be substantially untrue. The Ruger American Rifle, Mossberg, and Remington 783 are some of the cheapest rifles made and those use those features to accomplish sloppy manufacturing. If you look at the market as a whole, very few manufacturers are using these features and when they are it is to produce cheap rifles.

Also, Savage was not the first to put aluminum into a stock for bedding. Jarrett rifles is the first I know of.

I have a spare barrel in my safe. If they keep the action at that price point I might build my middle son a hunting rifle. I’ve always been a fan of Weatherby and their company ethos. It’s nice to see them expand their product line.

Did I say accustock or accufit? Because I meant accufit. The aluminum bedding in the accustock is not something I've ever used. I don't need it. Every Savage I've owned has shot sub-MOA (easily) with nothing but the cheap tupperware plastic stock, and no bedding. Some days I imagine how good they would be in a proper, bedded stock.

You seem hung up on the "cheap" factor, and I get it. Most guys can't see past that.

But a rifle has one job. To deliver a bullet in the right place. And the "cheap" rifles you mentioned above all do that very well despite their inexpensive price mostly BECAUSE they copied Savage features. If that doesn't say something to you, I am not sure what will.

For those who can't see past the price tag, I feel sorry for them. Too bad. Their loss.

Fortunately for you and many others, there are much more expensive rifles that will give you the feeling of confidence while accomplishing the exact same job.

I find the proof for the Savage hate silly, but it makes it into every rifle or action thread, oh well.

It will be interesting to see how this new 307 works out. Looking at their site, they are going broad spectrum in the calibers.
