The big difference between WA and OR and the rest of the West is that we all have a constitutional right to hunt and fish, and you don't. It doesn't mean we can sit on our hands as the populations of the states grow, but it does mean the Anti's have a bigger hill to climb.

NM doesn't either...

An amendment to the state's constitution was presented several years ago and it didn't make it.

Doesn’t take much to reverse these, just a majority like it did to vote it in. It’s silly to think things can’t change just because something was voted in, it can be reversed, so states that have this protection today can lose it tomorrow.

Washington sportsman are in for a real bumpy ride. The majority of our wildlife commission is blatantly anti hunting and they are getting their way, quickly. Its only a matter of time before Idaho, Montana, and the rest of the West are facing these same problems.

That sucks. I feel bad for you guys. Youre so right. Hey but the type ppl bha endorses have been sooooooooo "good" for public land hunters. I would love to discuss these issues but politics are off limits i have been told. Its a shame for WA hunters. Would probably be nice to have a big contingency of NR hunters to raise a stink to aid the cause but you know how that goes when no NRs have anything at stake in WA.

There is a push to get it done but the hill is steep right now. But they are trying.

We are Brock. It is getting to be where I feel it is impossible. I knew a governor could stuff the commission but usually they don’t get enough terms. This current WDFW commission is so blatantly opposite of the mandate that now they need to change the mandate. C’mon. Maybe the tribes will help us?!?

Yep. I was "schooled" by an petulant young lawyer on another forum dictating to me at how once a hunting right is added to a state's constitution by amendment, it is enshrined forever. It went right over his head that popular opinion can change things.

Case in point, you can't trap in NM on public land anymore, and that will destroy the deer population long term...

I dont know much about WA but isnt it pretty much run entirely by the woke brigade? If that this the case, any hunting privileges extended to tribes will likely and purposefully exclude non-tribal/poc hunters. That would be my guess.

It sucks, but I called this after the spring bear season got curtailed the first time. You had guys calling the system rigged in one way or another, then exclaiming we just needed to be heard so that it could change the course of what's happening... and at the end of the day our voices, and the sound science meant nothing.

My opinion is that this was intentional, and they have zero intent on bringing spring bear back. Next years commission vote will be the same.

This is just the beginning.

Unfortunately, we're too broken a group of people(Washington sportsmen) to actually do anything meaningful. Abstaining from purchasing hunting or fishing licenses for a couple years might send a hell of a message, but unless a majority of sportsmen do this, it's not really gonna have much effect.

Never say never. Look at the continuous attacks on the 2nd ammendment. Good luck fellas

I live in a conservative hunting friendly County in WA. A few years ago, when some anti 2A stuff went through, a local gun shop owner went off about all the guys who complain don't do anything, they won't even vote. He said that our County had under a 40% turn out for registered voters(I didn't check his numbers but he typically does his research).

I know I feeling that king county(I'm not talking about you enumclaw)/seattle will just do what ever they want, if we would all get involved I think it would make a difference.

I know I've been complacent and often doing the "bear" minimum(get it... loosing spring bear) but without active involvement from hunters, we are in trouble.

That’s an apples and oranges comparison though. In Washington and the US hunting isn’t protected by the constitution.

I’m not saying I don’t contribute or “do my part”. I left comments and signed the petition. I vote. At the same time, I know reality when I see it. Until Washington gets a change of politicians or the east side finally breaks off this is the reality. If they had it their way we wouldn’t be hunting at all, much less allowed to own firearms of any sort.

IMO this is a horrible idea. If no one purchases licenses they'll just say "see, nobody cares about hunting anyway so let's just ban it"

It is definitely a double edged sword but right now you are buying a license to support an antihunting agenda.

The tribes can hunt all year already. My point was the WDFW lack of predator control is going to impact their hunting too. They better get busy since our hands are tied.
