To me it boiled down to two things first was a vision pushing a positive forward looking agenda over one of fear and vilifying “the other.” Economists said her policies would grow the national deb by about 1/2 what Trump’s would and economists say that his promised tariffs will be detrimental and inflationary to our economy. I believe in science and see the impacts of climate change in my region (Adirondacks) for real. Que the deniers, but I believe in anthropogenic climate change and the need to confront it head on. Climate denialism is counter to accepted science and dangerous for our future and what we will leave behind for future generations. I also believe that the emerging technologies developed in tackling this problem could be extremely beneficial to our economy and allow us to become a world leader in that area. I find his rhetoric, combined with the caution of the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff among other Republicans who served with him, counter to my values as a person and as an American. I believe that we need to tackle
the problem of illegal immigration using a multi-faceted approach using modern technologies and economic tools. Trump killed a bipartisan initiative to do this for personal gain and it served him well. Take a look at the stock market, historic highs. And before the inflation drum gets pounded, do a bit of reading about causative factors. Inflation is a global problem. May sound hypocritical coming from a military retiree, but I’d rather see some money spent on emerging technologies to benefit our society and economy rather than more funneled into the military industrial complex. I do not believe that trickle down exonomics benefits the working American. Look where Trump’s previous tax cuts were focussed and where future cuts will land. You may get a token, but the fat cats will win large. I have worked hard my entire life and have more than I could have ever hoped for, so that’s not jealousy. I live simply and have more than I need or could have hoped for. I just don’t think more of our national wealth needs to be funneled to the money hoarders. To me, Trumps’s platform is one of fear mongering and division, not one of looking to a new, brighter future.

Secondly, and finally, she’s not Trump. If you think January 6th was just a “dust up” or an “enthusiastic voicing of free speech”, you need to look at some real footage of the event with an open mind. Trump fermented that and allowed it to progress. That in itself is disqualifying to me. When I served on my local town board an incumbent Republican had a challenger in the primary. The
challenger died before the primary. He later won both the primary and the general election. The town supervisor wanted to appoint the incumbent to the seat. I opposed that and another board member agreed with me. The stalemate went on for a couple months before the supervisor finally relented. I’ve been in a community where a dead man was chosen over a candidate. I would support anyone, literally anyone including Harris, over Trump based on January 6th alone. I honestly believe he’s the greatest threat to democracy and national security our nation has ever faced. No one has ever worked to undermine the election system or America’s faith in our national systems the way he has.

Just one man’s opinion. It may be different than yours. If this is rambling I’m typing it on my phone as I sit on a hardwood ridge. Magic hour is upon is so that’s it for now. I understand that I won’t change anyone’s mind anyway so I’ve given this enough time. It is worth knowing that not all “never Trumpers” are communists or anti-Americans.

You lost me at j6….(well, climate change but I read further)

When you admit that j6 was a set up and that there were fbi informants in the crowd facilitating violence while Capitol police ushered people through the front doors I will finish reading your post…..

I could see how someone could have Trump Derangement Syndrome if they only consumed left wing news sources and believed their every word.

Doesn't make it correct though. I don't have any ill will towards those folks, I feel bad for them honestly.

Amen

Does Trump Derangement Syndrome mean that a person disapproves of Trump and the wY he conducts himself? Kind of like the opposite of the “Cult” thing. Simple minded monikers.

No. It means you believe everything cnn tells you and would literally vote for a ham sandwich just because it isn't the evil orange man.

That's fine. Your choice.

You’re welcome. I guess I’m lucky, I’ve worked hard and had a good life, including over the past 4 years. I may not be able to understand why good people didn’t vote against him, but that does not make them stupid, a fascist or automatically my enemy.

Nice to have an adult conversation about the issue without the dismissive insults. I sincerely hope that I’m wrong about what’s to come over the next 4 years.

Best to you.

Frank

For me it was the possibility of nuclear war and endless wars..

Interesting take. I believe that yesterday America’s character was tested and found lacking. A convicted felon who praised Hitler’s generals, knowingly lied about legal immigrants eating their pets and was recorded bragging about sexually assaulting women was chosen by a majority of Americans to lead our country. It was a sad day for America.

This MUST be a BOT.

To be frank it's quite comical how all of the TDS afflicted insist on critiquing trump with their nonsensical virtue while staring at a coiled up rattler with rose colored glasses on
I'm quite positive that all of your issues with trump are likely identical to the conduct of the wretched witch Kamala . Adulterer- check , racist - check , actual slave owner -check , liar -check , complete moron -check .
And the icing on the cake and why trump is clearly better she is a deep state plant . And the way we know --- her family records are completely compromised and she can't talk without a teleprompter

Now that’s funny.

Not trolling at all, absolutely sincere. And before anyone reflexes with a dismissive label, I served my nation for a career in the Attack Submarine Navy as a Republican. When I retired and came home I was approached by local Republican leaders to run as a candidate for a seat as a councilman in my local town government. I did, won, and served two terms as a Republican until I decided not to seek reelection. I am also a hunting and fishing guide licensed in two states. I believe to my core that Trump is a reprehensible human who appeals to the worst of our human nature. I do believe that it was a sad day for America that good people were so unhappy in their lives that he would be an acceptable choice to lead a great nation. Just one man’s opinion.

6 year submariner here. Thank you for your service. I think for some people you are right when you say he "appeals to the worst of our human nature." But I know for a fact that for many of us, many of his policies appeal to "the better angels of our nature."

My vote is entirely based on his actual performance during his first term, the crop of incredible kids he's raised, and now the people he's surrounded himself with and his campaign platform.

Facts not racist opinion: in general blacks and Hispanics are not very fond of each other.
Yesterday both NC and SC passed a state constitutional amendment to change "every citizen" can vote to "only a citizen" can vote. Guess someone thought that closed any potential loophole.

There was a bit more to our constitutional amendment in SC. The language carries a significant difference. Love our awesome state.

There is a significant legal difference between these two phrases:

"Any citizen of the United States can legally vote":
- Permissive language
- States who CAN vote
- Doesn't explicitly exclude others
- Could leave room for interpretation about non-citizens
- Doesn't necessarily prevent others from voting
- More open-ended interpretation possible

"Only a citizen of the United States can legally vote":
- Restrictive language
- Explicitly exclusive
- Clear prohibition on non-citizens
- No ambiguity about who cannot vote
- Creates a specific limitation
- Stronger legal boundary
- More definitive in court interpretations

The word "only" creates an explicit restriction that the word "any" does not. In legal writing, this distinction is important because:
- Courts interpret permissive vs restrictive language differently
- "Only" creates a clear boundary for enforcement
- "Any" might require additional context or interpretation
- Precision in legal language affects enforcement

Midwest, north, south and east. Many came here during WWII and refused to go back to Paducah. Rinse and repeat post Korea and Vietnam.

Then in the 80s president Regan granted amnesty to a few million illegal immigrants and bang no more red California. This is precisely why amnesty and an open border are so popular on the left.

And contrary to the belief liberals are leaving California and ruining other red states it’s demonstrably false from voter registrations republicans are disenfranchised and leave California and continue to vote red.

IE: 1 million registered republicans have left and magically there’s a million new red votes in other states.

Liberal ideals which are a coastal thing not a California thing infect your children.

Texas like California will eventually be governed by a few metropolitan areas.

I don’t disagree with the statement on Texas eventually going blue because of Metropolitan areas.

And that is when I will leave Texas.

Also I can pretty well say with confidence that any Southerners that have moved to California have not contributed to its downfall.
