Virginia proposed $500 tax on suppressor sales

Pretty sure the form 4 must be filed in your state of residence.

Unless it has changed, the Virginia State Police do not consider suppressors a firearm so there is no background check performed by them. So buying one out of state shouldn't be a problem, but I'll cross that bridge if need be. I'm doing a couple form 4's and Form 1's this weekend

What does the state police have to do with the form 4? I'm genuinely curious.

I guess I'll jsut buy out of state now. Should only take a short amount of time to do a form 4 so I don't see why I should buy in state?
That doesnt prevent other states from not selling to you. I deal with it plenty with CO gun laws. Ive been turned down for gun purchases in Utah for things as simple as having a 30 round mag.

I'm just saying there isn't a sale being made with a form 4. Its just a transfer document, so there shouldn't be any reason why I couldn't go to WVA, AK, AZ, SC, etc. to purchase a suppressor since they're only .gov controlled items. The doc posted above says "retail sale made within the commonwealth" . So if i retail purchase in another state, then NBD

I was always under the assumption that the form 4 must be filed in your state of residence. I see what you're saying about the actual purchase transaction regarding the proposed tax.

Can start an LLC in another state.
Then buy all your shit through it.
I have NFA stuff in a corporation for example.

After you get all your cans and such, do a merger and succession of the entity to a survivor LLC in your state. The assets go with it because it’s it a sale. Not a form 4 event. Talk to your attorney.

Only problem is you have to keep your entity compliant and current in your respective state. Some are easier than others.

My opinion only.
