Everything that I've read and seen points to a defective inside lock mechanism. The fact that the door could not be locked from inside is indisputable.

I don't consider myself uncommonly brave in any way, but I would have opened that ****ing door and killed that azzhole or would have died trying. Most here would do the same!
What grown man stands down while that carnage is happening?! Those poor children and teachers, forsaken by those they trusted the most.

I haven’t been following much of the reporting and hearings, but from what I have seen everything that is taught in training for this type of a scenario was ignored. Sickens me to think about it.

There was a mother that wasn’t a pussy. She wasn’t getting paid and did not receive a dental plan.
She wasn’t anywhere near the shooting and there were also other officers evacuating kids at the same time.

Not defending anyone, just saying we need to pay attention the facts. If the facts show the door was unlocked, then let’s do some more investigations and find out what happened

Tough situation for sure. Lots of guys want to be cops until it's time to do cop shit. I reserved judgement until some facts came out. Now that I have heard, most of those cops are cowards. Absolute shame it went down like it did and those involved need to be relieved of their duties.

Huh? Enough of the facts are out, have been out for some time. Cops waited over an hour to engage with an untrained teenager. There’s nothing else left to discuss really.

Like it or not, we need people trained like Obi Wan Nairobi.

If you don’t know who he is, just Google it. The guy is a ******* legend. I was in Nairobi shortly after the attack, right near the location of those events. The balls it took for that guy to do what he did, where he did it, with the uncertainty he faced given the situation makes this whole thing in texas look even more despicable.

Guys with guns are good. Guys with guns, training, and BALLS are what is necessary. Not cowboy hats, radios, and a fear of ******* up.

You either do something or your don’t. Those guys didn’t. Pathetic.

They should
What would the charges be? Not saying they shouldn’t be, just curious. I have spent lots of time in a court room and done lots of investigations for Prosecutors. I don’t know of any law enforcement officer that was charged for lack of action. Now in the military we could hit them with dereliction of duty, but there isn’t such a thing in the civilian world, at least I haven’t seen it.

I would say you are more apt to see a civil suite by family and not any criminal charges.

I think everyone believes I am defending the cops but I am not. I am simply looking through the lens of an investigator. I know how unreliable witnesses are. Especially distraught family members. All the facts will come out but I doubt you ever see any criminal charges. Maybe some resignations, but that will probably be it. Maybe I am wrong though.

From the first day it sure seemed like something was very awry with the response.

If this was 20 years ago, this was how things were handled. Columbine pretty much changed all the "conventional" thinking when it came to active shooters. The training that almost every single law enforcement officer receives today (and probably safe to say the last fifteen years), is to gather what officers and resources you have and quickly as possible, engage and eliminate the threat.

I wasn't there, so not going to disparage any particular officer(s), but it's very obvious that the training that many of those officers received was not followed.

Well, the Texas DPS chief testified that his investigation showed that particular classroom door couldn’t be locked.

An assumption was made that the door was locked.

Instead of using the ballistic shield they had available from at least 19 minutes from perp’s entrance in school to check the door, they wasted over an hour searching for a key that they didn’t need.

There will be more investigations, lawsuits, firings, retirements, resignations, nightmares, etc.

But I seriously doubt there will be any criminal charges because the police do not have a duty to protect, and that is a crying shame.

Who exactly gave the order to stand down and why?
How is this any different than firemen standing around while a building burns down with kids in it knowing you have the equipment to save them?
Something far more sinister is at play here.

It appears that the school district police chief made the decisions.

“The Uvalde school district police chief who led the response to last week’s shooting and made the decision to wait for reinforcements while the gunman and survivors were still in the building did not have a police radio when he first arrived on campus, possibly missing reports about the 911 calls coming from inside, according to news reports.”

A very sad reflection on our society. Police officers that actually do their jobs and put the heat on bad guys get prosecuted and or put on unpaid leave while the authorities(so called) decide if there was excessive force used. And you had the left wing "Defund the Police" movement succeed in many areas. In Seattle they turned police headquarters over to the mob. I think most intelligent officers retired or left the force and those that are left are probably afraid to do ANYTHING for fear of losing their job, pension or freedom. When incompetent and sinister individuals are leading the country the state or the local govt you will have serious problems. Justice is no longer served on the guilty........that's too difficult......its served on the innocent because its easy to get them to comply. We are sprinting in the same direction as the Romans.....God help us all!

I wonder how many reinforcements actually showed up and when?

Uvalde Texas probably doesn’t draw the best and brightest of the LE world. I grew up in a similar town, our local LE were a bunch of dipshits that the military wisely wouldn’t take and way too lazy to go to college and become State Patrol. They did enjoy hassling teenagers and shining the light on the local girls while they put their shirts back on. I wouldn’t trust those fuckheads with a potato gun. Probably a good thing they didn’t go in, they’d have shot each other.

There will be a mass exodus of Local LEO’s. Don’t know how those men will be able to deal with it.
