Yep. Even if it’s expertly packed they will do everything to find a way to blame it on the packing job and deny the claim… this is after dragging out their investigation for months, of course.First, Pirateship is the way to go.
Second, I wouldn't bother with the insurance. Trying to get them to pay out is a giant pain. I just went through it last month for a 100 dollar item. I just gave up and cut my loses. I doubt they are going to be more accommodating the more they owe.
As a side note, if your mk4 hd failed I’d (and I assume others) would be interested in hearing what went wrong with it.

So you got charged $86 just to ship it? How?
Why is Leupold making you ship their product back for warranty work? They should have UPS pick it up at your door. It would cost them $17.00ish dollars. I used to work for an Optic company and never once did we make someone pay for shipping on a legit warranty claim.
Robbed twice, since it was a LeupyYou got robbed. I just shipped a spotting scope back to Leica for some work. $58 with $3,000 of insurance.
I’m new to the Pirate Ship thing and started an account to ship a bow just last week. Wow was it easy and saved me at least 30 bucks. I just printed on to regular paper, taped it on and dropped it off. Like someone above said, you’ll wish you’d done it sooner. Thanks so very much for the replies. Going to have to check out this Pirate Ship.
My brother, why in the world did you not walk out the door with that kind of highway robbery? People accepting that kind of BS is what keeps these mfers in business. They're a terrible franchise, give gun owners all sorts of trouble trying to legally ship firearms and ammo and whatever just because they don't like it, and they prey upon people (usually elderly) for shipping things because they just don't know better. I go there for Amazon returns because there's one right by my house and I've actually intervened a few times. One time a lady in a walker, had to be pushing 90 years old was trying to ship cookies for her grandkids for Christmas presents, there was something like 10 different small boxes and she was going upwards of $200+. I was trying to convince her to back out and I'd show her how to do it better but she was confused and another guy in line offered to just pay it for her so she went through with it. That dude let the staff have it, but it's not their fault it's the franchise itself that's the problem.Yesterday I used a UPS Store to ship a Mark 4HD back to Leopold for warranty. Had bought their $19 box and packing from the same store the day before. When I took the package back to the UPS Store and requested insurance in the amount of $1500.00, the clerk made it clear if they didn’t package the product, an insurance claim would likely be denied, since my boxing it up with their box and packing probably wouldn’t pass their test. I appreciated her honesty.
So, I paid the stupid tax and will have a better strategy next time. $124.07 (including $37.50 insurance) to ship a 2 or so pound item seems excessive. Any shipping recommendations for the future will be appreciated. TIA.
