about about the same but longer inseam. I'm slowly creeping into the size 34 range. the puffy pants are about a 32" inseam cut because I feel they're on the verge of high waters

It's tricky. I'm like @doc holiday13 and also creeping into the 34 inch waist (lost 20lbs last two months) so XL would be too loose imo for you. I think large would be better, they'll be short though either way I think as they are about a 32 inseam.
