Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

Someone may have posted this already.

7.7oz for right side charging upper receiver. Option for rear.

For reference the BCA weighs 10oz.

I suspect you could build a side charging upper that weighs same as solo, for around the same price, with aluminum bcg. If you wanted right side charging or to DIY.
That's the upper I used for my first attempt at an ultralight. They're very nicely built uppers as far as that goes.

The rifle was a little bit lighter than my Kimber Montana, but not what I was trying to accomplish. That part didn't come together until I found the Solo 300 upper.

@robtattoo

Talked to Deb today. They’re slammed with Black Friday stuff, but said she’d get with the boss.

Asked again if we thought there’d be 10 people who want them.

It’s probably worth a roll call to see how easily we’ll hit a minimum order. I told her my sense is that they will exceed it given how the Shaw .223 barrel went.

So if anyone here is definitely interested in a 6x45 lightweight port less AR barrel, speak now!

If they can do one in 6mm MAX while they're at it, I could be interested depending on price and weight.

I think the 6x45 might be about the best all-around chambering, but I'm more than happy enough with the 223 to get pulled in that direction (new bullets, new dies, new load development etc.).

The 6mm MAX would be more to satisfy my curiosity than likely finding any big advantage over the 223. A few years ago I mocked up a 30-350L case just to see what kind of capacity there would be compared to a 300 HAM'R. Always thought a 223-350, 6-350, 30-350 and maybe a 25-350 would be an interesting bunch of cartridges for these.

Does it work well being that short? Would probably help a little in keeping it from bumping your side when slung on your right shoulder.
I think it will be fine. I haven't shot a round and tried it yet. It doesn't feel much different to me than the long one, just puts my finger closer to the receiver. I probably wouldn't try it with a hot/straight round but I'm shooting kind of creampuff 77gr 223 loads.

I was waiting for @robtattoo to hear back, but I’m thinking he won’t given my response from Stu at Satern.

He said they’re too busy to do the new 6x45 design and production right now.

I let him know we have a dozen or so people already interested in buying the barrel.

I’d say back to the drawing board - we should probably ask Shaw since they already have the “blueprint”.

I’ll reach out to him in the spring again.

Great job and very practical weight. I think that this is a good example that one doesn't have to pull out every stop to build a very lightweight, very practical rifle...all without breaking the bank.
You nailed it. I didn't do anything "special" with the build, just used proven parts from this thread.

You can build a 1/8 twist 223 Wylde rifle for under a grand with optic that weighs 4 pounds.

That is sinking in with a few friends right now, and it's hilarious.

Anyone have any concerns or issues with the tiny bearing surface of the shoulder (for suppressors) on the Shaw barrel, especially titanium (galls easily) cans?
-I was almost thinking of trying a timing washer just to protect the mating surfaces

Area 419 hellfire universal adapter for me.

I'm using a 30 cal can and adapter

Got it dialed in at 25 with AAC 77g OTM. I'm happy with it. Will get outdoors to a real range Sunday, but I couldn't wait.

3x? Is it the sweet spot for weight/accuracy? I am still struggling with an optic but that looks like a fantastic group.
Yes, it's the Primary Arms 3x micro prism. I'll shoot a few 10 round groups at 100 Sunday.

25 is like sandblasting a Ritz cracker.

FYI, I'm back to the factory mount on the Primary Arms 3x micro prism. The quick release sticks out a LOT more and isn't reversible. This is both of them on the rail.

A bit over 2.5lbs for the bare rifle with the 16 inch shaw portless.

Under 4lbs scoped and suppressed.

I'll have to see how it shoots with the poly trigger setup

It will be fun to see what it weighs when I get my sbr stamp and 10 inch barrel.

Damn! That's a couple ounces lighter than the Little Big Gun. Nice work!...and there goes my claim to the "world's lightest centerfire rifle". 😅

What are the details on your handguard? Did you glue the CF tube to the nut, and hand tighten? Which barrel nut did you use?
