Trump Admin will ask Congress to eliminate USGS Biological Resources Division

Most of these cuts cannot be justified it’s just a facade to get power. This Admin doesn’t give a rat’s patootie for any environmental science what-so-ever let alone any wildlife, fishery management plans. There is no economic benefit to cutting these programs, actually the reverse is true. Billions of dollars of revenue was generated by the science these programs provided. Case in point last weeks executive orders included opening up the pacific areas for tuna and other pelagic species (juveniles off the spawning areas) over by Samoa.

Another Presidential Execuitive Order dated 17 April gutted the regional Fisheries Management Councils by throwing out not only the fishery science, but included shooting another arrow into the heart of the commercial fishing industry. He completely ignores the Magnuson-Steven’s Act, the Highly Migratory species Acts and the international Tuna Convention Act. The Army Corps of Engineers determines the dam flows. Without the science to keep the eco-systems in and around the reservoirs healthy, there will be no fishing. It has taken over 50 years of environmental science to reverse some of the damage done to our trout and salmon fisheries.
Faux outrage. This admin has not permitted and built millions of acres of offshore wind that the previous did. Can you link your post of outrage when the last administration "streamline" ie established a rubber stamping process for offshore? Are those wind farms with aggressive and accelerated environmental reviews the model of conservation that you aspire for?

"President Biden’s Investing in America agenda is making once-in-a-generation investments in America’s infrastructure and our clean energy future that are creating good-paying and union jobs, establishing and growing new industries in the United States, tackling the climate crisis, and helping lower costs for families.

To deploy these investments, the Biden-Harris Administration has taken aggressive action to accelerate project permitting and environmental reviews. "

Hey everyone,

Hope everyone is having a good Easter. Just wanted to put this up before it passed my mind. Currently, the budget proposal that the administration is going to put forward will eliminate the USGS Biological Resources Division. So would this impact the wildlife you. Without the USGS, there would not have been a cohesive effort to map ungulate migrations across the west like there has been.
Wait!!! What is the USGS? It’s the United States GEOLOGICAL survey. Nothing biological sounding to me. It’s or was the highest regarded federal agency regarding geology, like NASA is to space. I never heard of this biological resource division? 1996!! LOL get rid of it. Why can’t US Fish and Wildlife do what the biological division does, or does it? Nothing to see here folks. Good grief.

USGS has always done really good work when I have interfaced with them. There are a lot of government agencies I have complaints about, USGS is bottom of that list. If Trump called me and asked, I would have said USGS is doing pretty well. Look elsewhere for things to cut.

Less government is always better government.
That said, we'll never get less net-government.
Ever.
Too many people love it.

“Unconstitutional” - point to me where the Constitution says that and Ill agree
This is where you Bernie Bros get tripped up. The constitution doesn't tell the government what they can't do it tells them what they can do. Show me in article 16 where it says the government can levy a wealth tax. If it does not explicitly give them the power so it is unconstitutional.

"ARTICLE XVI. The Congress shall have the power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration."

This thread, this forum is about scientific fish and wildlife management required to maintain hunting and sport-fishing opportunity. I won’t bite on your deflection.

The federal government cannot tax a person once for the money they earn and then again and again until it is all gone. That’s seizure of private property. Whether you despise billionaires, love them, or don’t care, the government seizing their property is tyranny. I’m against government tyranny!

”Alex I’ll take what is US Fish and Wildlife’s role in managing US fish and wildlife management? for $500. Has US Fish and Wildlife Department been eliminated? I hope not, but I’ll bet they could sure use a haircut!

USGS was/is the gold standard of Federal Agencies. They could probably use a little trim. Oh, wait cut off the biological division, how did that get on there, hey cut that damn thing off!! Icky

I never argued for a wealth tax. If they wanted to hoard it all and live in a hut, that’s fine, but that’s not what they’re doing.

They’re leveraging their wealth to purchase things, but never paid an income tax. If I go buy a car, it’s with money that’s been taxed. When your dork lord and savior Elon buys a company, he (may) pay sales tax but uses “unrealized” gains that haven’t been taxed to buy it

Congressman's response:
"Hold my beer".
I'm pretty sure that would entail Congress actually doing something.

I agree. USGS Science Centers are by far the most efficient and production based govt entities I've been around.

I will try this another way-

There are 900 Billionaires in the US with a net worth of $6T.

There are 23.7m millionaires in the US worth $26T.

So if you told all their money and gave it to the government we would still have a $6T debt.

Now let's not forget about the $2T deficit we run every year. We would be at an $8T debt at the end of the fiscal year. Now if we don't cut spending (which we would undoubtedly would have to because the largest businesses in the world would go down from the sudden shock to the economy but we can address that later) we would still have a $2T deficit. This would now be worse because we just broke all the highest tax payers that pay 46% of the tax burden. So 5.46T×.46= another 2.5T. So our first year in we willbe back to a 12.6T debt. And in 2 years you will be back where you were but with less tax revenue so it would climb astronomically higher at a faster rate.

Back to stealing people's money if you cash in all their assets in reality it will cripple the stock market and we will all be poor and the government will have no money to spend because half their revenue will be gone. Potentially more.

So these cuts that people want to kick and scream like little children about will be much worse some day if it isn't under control. There are cuts going on in everything and for wvery cut there are people that don't like it. But some of us have to act like adults and see what is happening is necessary. Furthermore many of these cuts will have no change in your lifestyle. The sky is falling mentality and the I I I ME ME ME temper tantrums are sad and show the mental immaturity of a large swath of the public.

Edit to add: if we got rid of those son of a bitch millionaires with the bustard billionaires we would lose the two top tax brackets which means the government would lose 66% of its revenue after the first year which makes the Outlook worse than I showed above.

My guy, what?? Our money is taxed when we earn it and typically when we spend it. You’re not understanding that they are claiming to not earn anything then using that to buy things.

No one is saying they need to be taxed a million times, that makes no sense. But those gains aren’t unrealized when they’re being used to buy something

There ya go, ignoring the point again. You first said it was unconstitutional based on a misinterpretation of what I said, I point out that’s not the case, now you say “Well it’s not that big a deal”

At least be able to concede when you’re wrong, don’t keep moving the goal posts

Bernie and AOC want a wealth tax, that’s who.
You are saying that billionaires are legally gaming the tax system!! They are if they are smart, lol. Get rid of the federal tax system, we didn’t have it a hundred years ago, we didn’t have the Federal Reserve either, get rid of that. It’s all way too complicated and people are gaming it, right! Or have a flat tax, everyone pays 20 or so percent of what you make, whether it is $20k or $20billion a year. You take home $18 or $18 billion. I’m not an economist, but that’s fair to me and I’m far closer to the $20k. Everyone should have skin in the game, over half the country pay nothing and they can vote, LOL, it won’t end well.

Ignoring what point I wasn't talking to you?

It isn't constitutional. I proved that.

Where did I say it's not that big of deal?

What was I wrong about?

You proved that? Where? If you read what I said, I never suggested a wealth tax.

That said “unrealized” gains to purchase something is an oxymoron. That’s income, full stop
