Curious if any of you transport your rifle in the back of a pickup truck. What do you store them in.
? How do you secure them from bouncing around or preventing them from being stolen? Do you have a way to lock them. Looking for ideas

If you are talking about while on the road, I put them in a hard case (Pelican or similar) and take them in hotels with me at night.

They would usually be in the cab or in the back under the topper - I wouldn’t leave them in either place at night while in a motel. My current truck has a lockable diamondback. I haven’t taken a road trip with my guns in it yet but I plan to leave my gear, including guns, in that. One of the advantages is that someone cannot see what, if anything, is locked in the bed. The security of the DB is one of the main reasons I got it, along with the price of toppers these days.

Put em in the back seat, not the truck bed. ;) And yes - bring them inside at night if stopping somewhere.

They fit on the floor behind the driver seat.
They fit on stuff piled behind the driver seat.
They fit on the back bench seat.

You can also put em in a soft case and stand em up behind the front seats.

In a soft case then inside a hard case. Preferably backseat but could be back of truck if topper or tonneau covered. Inside hotel at night.

Mine is in a Savior soft case shoved under the back seat (Ford).

I have one of these draped over my seats for kids so it's not visible unless you peek.

There might be a shotgun and a pistol safe under there too, who knows?

How often are yall getting smash and grabbed with your cars?

I question the impulse to move everything into a hotel room.

The vehicle seems safer than the room if all risks are weighed.

Never, but it only takes once to ruin a trip.

When I stay in hotels, I try my best to a) stay in nicer joints, b) park where I can see the car from the window, and c) always bring guns or expensive optics in. It takes only a minute extra and the vast majority of hotel staff and guests don't blink an eye if it's in a case. Of course, no matter how nice a hotel is, the parking lots are all pretty much equally at risk of being targeted.

If someone busts a window out of the car and steals a spotting scope, I can hunt without it. If they steal binos I can grab a replacement at walmart that at least beats squinting with my good eye. If they steal a tent or pants or boots.....same. Walmart is everywhere and generally has gear that'll do - though you might need to break a cheap pair of boots in on the fly.

But steal my rifle and I'm in a bind.

My absolute favorite places to stay on the road are airbnbs, and of those, the best, IMO, are the hunting cabins and guest homes people have - you're in their yard, they live there, it provides a certain level of security if they're in a good neighborhood. Airbnb basement apartments or garage apartments are the same.

Soft case, like a drag bag, and slid under the back seats or I have a locking trunk in the bed. Take the guns to my room if I'm at a hotel.

I usually have a soft tonneau cover on the truck and could lock the tailgate, but wouldn't just leave guns hanging out secured by nothing but a soft cover.

Someone once smashed the back window of my SUV to steal CDs while I parked at a park and ride lot over night.

I don't put stickers on my truck to advertise that I'm a hunter or firearm enthusiast.

I kinda forgot about it but for people like me that always have used a soft case, Colorado requires a locked hard case for any firearm left unattended in a vehicle.

I forget about it, but where I live you technically need a CCW to put it anywhere besides the center console or glove compartment. I doubt its enforced but I'd be the guy.

We went to permit less carry but this is one of the reasons I renew my CCW. It makes it easier to process a Form 4473 too.

I never leave my stuff in a vehicle at a hotel.

I used to have a bench seat cover that had a built in scabbard. This made me think of that.

Also, back when I had a Chevy, there was enough room behind the rear bench for soft cased rifle or shotgun.
