Carry a bolt gun on a motorcylce legally in Colorado?

I have bow hunted elk in Colorado and wyoming off a street legal dual sport. Very effective to being mobile where I was hunting.

Expecting to draw an antelope tag this year in Colorado. Thinking I can cover ground much easier on the bike than truck.
Question: How do I need to transport hunting rifle on motorcycle? Is unloaded strapped mostly inside main back pack compartment good to go? Thanks

1. Sometimes it is black and white, and in print. If so, take that with you.
2. Call the law enforcement official(s) that could potentially issue you a citation for such an action.

LEO's have quite a bit of discretion in their day to day operations, so ask clarifying questions as to what the law(s) actually state versus their interpretations of said laws.

It could certainly happen that you talk to "Bob" from agency "A" and then you later encounter "Tom" from agency "B" who has a different view, which is the person you'd run into in the field. Look for consistency in their answers and go from there.

Getting their input ahead of time could be very helpful.

Rules in my state are pretty clear. Cased and unloaded. I wouldn't want any part of the rifle showing and I'd double check buckles or zippers.

Cased and unloaded or it was last time I hunted there. For a ml, primer removed is considered unloaded.

6.5 grendel pistol with a folding stock. Pistol, so no need to unload, small enough to fit in a backpack... seriously though, I've thought about a fully enclosed, lockable, scabbord type mount on my KTM. Might just have to try it this year. Definitely be a talk I need to have with some local LEOs.

Careful with the pistol. A lot of states have a max length allowed for concealable pistols. Totally stupid.

Yeah, I was kidding... kind of. I've seriously considered a.scabbord though for.my bolt guns, just hate to take a fall.

Well after reading through the Colorado regs closer I have been breaking law riding with a bow strapped to my pack for some time now. Even talked to a game warden with bow on pack while riding motorcycle. Got a free pass for sure. So specifically a bow or gun must be unloaded and cased in Colorado.

A gun scabbard mounted like a panier would work I guess.

Laws must be different in other states cause I know I have seen multiple posts and videos of people using dual sports to hunt. Idaho?

I too have talked to wardens with my bow strapped to my pack on a 4wheeler in Colorado. They don't seem to mind, I have seen them ticket people for the handlebar atv mounts for rifles. I think strapped is looked at as semi-cased, as you would have to stop the atv/bike and un strap it to shoot. Depends on the warden I suppose.
