Toyota Tacoma Advantages

One major disadvantage for Tacomas is that they have dumbest seating position ever.

Nothing like feeling like you are sitting on the floor with your legs straight out in front on a nice multi-hour drive.
Yea, but this is purely personal preference though. 13.5 hours from N. Utah to AZ and then 13.5 hours back, not a single problem for me. 10X more comfortable than my old Tundra.

Wifes grandpa had a Tacoma for a short stint. If you ask him about it, it was the worst vehicle he ever owned, he doesnt understand why anyone would ever buy one, Toyotas suck, etc. Why? Because the cab was too small for him. He is 6 foot 3, at least. He told me all of that when I bought my Tacoma...I am barely 5 foot 7.

My 2012 Tacoma TRD has never let me down. Only gotten oil/fluid changes over 150K miles. A lot of them on rugged mountain roads. On my elk hunt this year I saw larger trucks from other manufacturers parked along side of road with ATV trailers. The road was very muddy. I continued on through the mud in my warm cab while passing some cold looking ATV drivers.

I’ve owned 6 polaris rangers. 3 where northstar editions. Where i live we can drive them in town also. The last one I bought was an ultimate crew northstar and they are pushing close to $40k. I was putting about 7-9k miles on them per year. If i kept it for 4 years i would have around 30k miles on it and it wouldn’t be worth very much. Way less then half what i paid.
I sold it and bought a new tacoma for similar money. If i put 40k miles on a tacoma the depreciation wont amount to much.

As far as usability, i can do almost everything i could do in the northstar crew in the tacoma. Plus i can drive it anywhere i want long distance.

Ive a owned sxs since 2007 and since i sold my last one a year ago i havnt missed it at all.

In rocky country, you can comfortably drive a SxS much faster than any road-worthy truck. The benefits to the Tacoma are climate control, lockable space, and over-all storage capacity - not to mention Toyota quality, reliability, and resale value

Not true, my Tacoma, granted it was modified with very good suspension, would keep with and blow the doors off most sxs in the desert and shitty trails.

I passed lots of sxs in that thing, still miss it.

Just called Toyota (why not) and they said it was inspected in 2018 and deemed serviceable.
The replacement program is no longer going on.
Thanks for shopping with Toyota. 😁
That's not as bad as when the told me 'eff you' when presented with a full book of receipts and had the history of my rear leaf failure.
It's Toyota...Fanbois will buy them regardless.

It was caused by a few things if I remember correctly.
1. The frame manufactured didnt use the proper steel.
2. The rust coating wasnt up to spec
3. The old frames had spots that allowed moisture to get into the frame.
Don't forget that it's a flexy, C-section frame to begin with.
Tundras from the same era were notorious for weak frames.

I’ll admit there is a lot that I really like about them.
But this is the 3rd Toyota that I’ve had a frame rust out on.
And like I mentioned before, I didn’t do the best job at keeping the salt off of them. But I believe it’s a futile effort.
Probably won’t be buying another.

Just buy a 4Runner or Jeep. For as small as the Tacoma is, its still a truck with a long wheelbase.

My OE leaf springs were flat/negative camber.
Riding on the frame/bump stops unloaded.
I loved the OME Dakars once I removed the third leaf.
Exactly what Toyota should have done if they were really marketing trucks.

Toyota sunsetted the frame recall replacement years ago.
My 2013 Tacoma had the frame replacement at Toyota's expense in late fall of 2023--maybe it would have been better if it didn't need one but it was an awesome piece of work to get done-my understanding is that the program covers 2011- 2017 models in states with high road salt usage within 12 years of date of first use with some additional restrictions. If you have a Tacoma w/ frame rust, I would check it out before giving up.

I've never before heard anyone whine so much about the leaf spring issue. Usually, owners were happy with the tsb fix or buying Dakars.

If you were one of the early ones that couldn’t believe your amazing Toyota was riding on the frame rails and called Toyota and was met with arrogance and indifference then proceeded to fix your amazing Toyota out of pocket only to have them issue a recall later then deny your reimbursement because you didn’t have the dealer diagnose it even though Toyota had and admitted full documentation of your history and a full set of receipts for your repairs, you might be a little bitter, too.
Or maybe you consider that solid customer service.

So I wanted to ask my fellow sliders about this. I have a 3/4 ton Diesel that I pull my 5th wheel with, and a side by side to take up the nasty roads and trails that we see while hunting. But I know a few guides and avid hunters who swear by their Tacomas and have no interest in buying an ATV or side by side. Anyway I’m kicking around the idea of buying a Tacoma to use in the hills but wanted to gather as much info as I can.

So what are the advantages over using a side by side to hunt or tool around the hills in? Strictly as a hunting vehicle?
I have a taco and love it won’t switch, but one reason would be some trail have a width in inches restriction (in nm) and my taco is to wide for that
