I was replacing the battery in my 2007 tacoma and like a dummy hook positive/negative backwards. The truck would not start. I replaced the 140 amp alternator fuse, radio fuse, ABS fuse, and some sort of throttle control unit fuse (I think that's what it was). Anyway, truck ran fine all day yesterday around town, about 30 miles. On the way home the 140 amp alternator fuse blew again. Any Ideas where to look from here?

When I get home I will hook a meter up to the battery and check voltage. Any other things I can check?

check bat. connections, fuses and alt. output. Fuse should have protected the alternator but you never know. you could drive for a while on battery voltage.

Check battery running for 12Vdc. Then check battery running for 13-14Vdc. Sometimes that can tell you if alternator is putting out correctly.

I did the same thing once. The 140 amp fuse was a real pain, but after replacing it the truck never had another problem. Was it an OEM fuse?

@IdGoldHunter, check out the TacomaWorld forum. There is a lot of expertise and friendly help there.

And don't feel bad. I did that on a 74 Jeep CJ. Lots of smoke and rewiring...and cussing.
