Moved the safe from my office (now my daughters room) to the garage last week. My wife, who doesn’t have the combo, got her first look into just how full the safe is and yea she counted as my dad and I unloaded. It was my first real count in 15 years.

The good news is after discovering the new O/u and the muzzle loader in my daughters closet she ‘made’ me buy a second safe. So now I have a safe in my bedroom that I get to fill.

Biggest issue with your list is the need for at least one backup 12 gauge. Better be able to quickly get back in the game during a high volume duck hunting weekend in shitty weather.

This post made me so mad I sprayed coffee all over my keybroos und now crant schpell.

Edit: ok, got the keyboard all cleaned up. How many? All of them, that’s how many.

I think I’ve posted this before but I’ll do it again. It’s a simple trick.

Me- “buying a new gun.”

Wife- “I thought that last one you bought was your last one?”

Me- “It was the last one that I bought. This one will be the last one, I promise.”

If all else fails, remind her that you are “investing”.
Yes honey, the last one I bought was, the last one I bought, and the next one will be the last one I bought.

Thanks for the reminder. I gotta get the serial number from my newest added to my list.

My wife doesn’t need 2 dozen pair of shoes but here we are.
Count yourself lucky if your wife "only" needs 2 dozen pairs.

As for guns, it's never been about need. It's like bows, and arrows, and broadheads. I only "need" one of each, but I always want backups and the quiver holds five.......so might as well fill it up. If and/or when SHTF, we'll all want at least one AR style rifle for each person living in the house. So there's that just for starters, and that doesn't even touch on hunting rifles, shotguns, ML's, handguns, or collectibles. It's pretty easy to get to 20+ in a hurry without any needed justification at all.

30-06 (X2), 243 Win, 12ga pump, 9mm, .357 Mag… I’m a boring guy because that is my actual collection. Sometimes I get a hankering for a Creedmoor or something but I just take a cold shower until the urge passes. I have way more guitars than guns, and I do love some good whiskey.

Nahhhh y'all need to think critically. 12 guage pump gun is all you *need*.

Birdshot for birds & varmints
Larger steel shot for waterfowl
Buckshot for 2 legged things and mid-size game
Slugs for anything that needs a .70" hole put through its body

Will it do everything well? No, but it will darn sure do everything

I need that many guns in 22LR alone. . .
-One shot youth rifle for teaching kids
-Semi auto rifle for fun
-Bolt action for precision
-Semi auto hand gun for cheaper hand gun target practice
-revolver so I can pretend to be a cowboy . . .
All of these are necessary

Sorry you are wrong. ALWAYS have a back up for each. I've witnessed guns malfunction in the field or something weird happen and a back up was needed.

If we are doing the philosophical...a pump shotgun of either 20guage or 12 gauge is all that is needed. See 2 posts above. Also, if you are getting questioned on your firearms purchases (barring an actual money issue) leave you don't need that kind of negativity.

I'm lucky when I buy a firearm normally I have to start looking for another pretty quick for my wife. Hell my 3 year old already has her own .410 and my 1 year old will be getting one shortly. Does a 1 and 3 year old NEED their own shotguns...YES

My long term plan started with Jimmy Carter. You need two of everything so you can eventually share with the government. Then remember these are just tools. I have at least 10 differant types of saws. Each gun does differant things for differant reasons.

And finally some are nicer than others and we should be able to enjoy nice things. After all you settled for just one wife so why shouldn't you be able to gather other things just because.

Of course they NEED those shotguns. Never lend a firearm. ATF wouldn’t approve

Total disclosure, I have never understood why people think they are so "cool" for owning a ton of guns. I have my fair share but honestly, just buying them to put them in the safe doesnt make much sense to me. BUT, you can do what pleases you and have at it.

So I was talking to my wife and the topic of why do you need so many guns came up. I danced around the subject as well as any gun owner does but the thought crossed my mind.

In all reality a person only needs 4.
1. 30-06 from any manufacture in the $7-800 range (Tikka, Bergara, Remington before chapter 11, Winchester etc)
2. 12GA any reliable manufacture
3 .22lr Ruger 10-22.
4. 9mm (Glock 19 or maybe a Sig 320 carry)

Argue for or against and feel free to flame on.

Pretty close to my current kit.

1. Kimber 84L in 30-06. Really great rifle, its a pleasure to shoot and very light.

2. I have 2 20 gauge shotguns. Inherited side by side and a Benelli auto loader. I like taking the break open to the club and its fun to use for sentimental reasons but the Benelli is definitely lighter and if I'm going to be out all day I prefer to have that. I have a o/u 28 gauge on my radar. I really don't think that a 12 is necessary with modern loads but that's a hotly debated topic and I feel like the only correct answer is shoot what you like best.

3. 22LR is just plain fun to shoot. It was also a lot of fun to build.

4. Ruger SR9 that goes pew a bunch of times. Great little weapon.

Probably don't need anything else. A 6.5 would be fun for the range if I had the time to do competitions. I'd probably add two more shotguns before getting another rifle if I'm being honest.

This is why you never let your wife wear the pants. Mancard revoked. Assume the position.

I've got three. Pretty much only hunt big game and very, very occasionally will go out for rabbits.

1) Slightly bigger centerfire/Dedicated elk gun: 7mm Rem Mag
2) Slightly smaller centerfire/Dedicated deer rifle/Backup for elk: 6.5 CM
3) $150 single-shot 20 gauge for the odd jackrabbit/snowshoe hare hunt

Covers all my bases and I always have a backup rifle ready in the event I take a hard fall and don't want to waste hunting time checking zero. If I weren't paranoid about not having a backup I could get by pretty well with any medium-ish centerfire and any shotgun bigger than a .410.

My goal is 5 guns:

Light, medium, heavy, 22lr, shotgun.

Ex: 30-06, 375, 458

Or 275, 350, 450 NE Rigbys. That’s all a man needs
