What do you keep water in that does break when it freezes?

Nalgene bottles. Slightly less than full.

All the standard stuff replied already , plus I added a small roll of shipping foam that we get to protect large autobody parts.
Its great to lay on installing chains, stand on when changing into dry clothes, all kinds of uses
