While my opinion may not be popular, here it is. Our culture's constant use of profanity reflects many things, including a lack of respect for one's self and others. It also shows the general lack of intellectual capacity in our world. Don't take my word for it; just read the posts above with individuals acting like reading or writing 13 pages is akin to climbing Mount Everest.

If one can not communicate without using vulgarity every other word, they seriously need to expand their vocabulary and sharpen their communication skills. There are better ways to express oneself.

Doubt seriously that your thoughts/ statements will register, particularly with the, say, 25-35 year old constituency. Just a different ( and more profane ) time in which we live, I suppose.

You mean he was not a good Christian, just as your attempt to judge the condition of his heart makes you not a good Christian. Romans 2:1-16.

A Christian is someone who professes to follow Christ, making the word synonymous with good is both inaccurate and makes the word meaningless as we already have words for good.

The inaccurate is because as even Paul observes in Romans 7:15-20, even he misses the mark, "For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing."

Christ did not come for the perfect. Mark 2:17 "On hearing this, Jesus said to them, 'It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.'"

And, as C.S. Lews observes in Mere Christianity, Satan is perfectly happy to see us stop pursuing the sins of the flesh if in turn we become self-righteous and consumed with pride about our own goodness.

I am slowly learning that so often the plank in my own eye is my "righteous" anger at the splinter in my brothers eye.

In about 10% of it, yes. IMO, this podcast especially, but really all of them, need to cut the nonsense. Stick to the subject matter at hand, not go off on endless tangents, keep it to 20-30 minutes and be concise about it. It’s not the venue to rib your buddy about the bad shot he made or the fat chick he brought home from the bar. Keep it relevant!

The secret to a good podcast is one with a good intro into the subject matter, and a good conclusion. The closer the two together, the better!

Absolutely no one wants to listen to 2hrs worth of meaningless banter (especially bro talk) to get 20 minutes worth of valuable information.

Would more people that currently don’t listen start if there was less cussing? Maybe. Probably.

If they are doing the podcast for pure joy of doing it, carry on.

If it’s a business, then stop being juvenile and make it more appropriate for more listeners.

I used to listen to about the same amount of podcasts but I dont have a long commute anymore.

I agree whole heartedly. My favorite podcasts were just genuine unscripted conversation between people being themselves.

When I used to listen to meateater, the most entertaining podcasts were the ones with no guests when they would answer questions and just BS. I would then see people complain specifically about those episodes.

I think people dont understand what a podcast is. I can tell by some of the comments in this thread that people want a short scripted documentary style podcast that gives you educational content for 30 minutes and then ends with a scripted outtro thanking the listeners for tuning in. I rather not listen at all than listen to something like that.

If you use the F word in every sentence, you’re probably an idiot. OTOH, swearing can be concise, short hand.

“This situation is causing me consternation, aggravation, and I’m temporarily unsure of my ability to resolve it properly.” Short hand… Aaah, Shit!

“ i’m offended by what you just said or did to me. It’s uncalled for, inappropriate, and I don’t like it. I wish to terminate this conversation and any contact with you, and in the process dismiss you completely.” Short hand… Fuuuu**k yeeewww!!

But the most concise and hilarious use of profanity that I’m aware of comes from a coworker of my son’s. He’s a Mexican laborer who doesn’t speak English well. When confronted with a messy or disastrous situation, his usual utterance is “All is F**k!”
