The 6UM

I’ve been off thread for a while with this project. This gun shoots silly good, I have 70 down the pipe now. Shot my bull with the stick and string this year, so it will get first blood on mule deer or my wife’s elk tag.
I had a heck of a time with the Hawkins Hunter mag. Never would fit no matter how much I dremmeled it. Ended up in the trash can.
Ordered up this accurate mag in 3 round 300 wsm. Fits like a glove.

Good to know, was thinking about ordering a Hawkins for my hnt26 tikka in 6prc, think I’ll hold off now and maybe try the accurate mag.

UM posted on their Instagram a picture of an email from ADG earlier this week. Said that ADG would be shipping test brass via UPS ground within a few days for evaluation.

I messaged UM asking if it was necked to 6mm to which they replied "yes". So it sounds like ADG was able to get it necked to 6mm but I don't think they got the shoulder?

I’m testing that brass next week. It’s necked to 6mm but will need to be FF.

What's up with your top bit of brass. The case mouth looked munted

From Kurt,

My daughter shot this buck with the 6 UM at 540, one shot, entered right behind right shoulder, no exit or damage on offside, first 115 I have had not exit, hit a rib on the way in. Took out most of the lungs, tore the diaphragm in half and even damage the liver. Pretty unbelievable damage inside.

Buck pronghorn shot straight on in the chest at around 100 yards. Impact speed not much below 3400 fps. Bullet was a DTAC NR deep cut. It appears to have taken a bit of a turn after entering, leaving the below softball-sized hole out the ribcage and into the right shoulder. Shoulder was shattered right through the knuckle. The only parts of the bullet we found were small fragments of lead and copper. Fragments went through the top of the heart and destroyed the lungs. He stumbled about 30 yards and tipped over.

I have a squirrel gun ready to go sitting in the safe. Just waiting for brass and dies to ship from Unknown. Couple questions as this is all new to me.

1. What would be a good recommended fireforming load for shooting the 115 dtacs? I have h1000, retumbo, a pile of H414, and N570.

2. If the brass becomes available before the dies, am I able to seat bullets with a different seater die? If so, what options would work?

I just use cheap 6mm bullets to FF. I’ve used 4831, 7828 and h1000. All around 55-58 grains

I have used 300 SAUM imp, 7 SAUM and the FA universal seating die.
