This might be the wrong place but has anyone had experience with both Capitol Armory and Silencer shop? I have done SS and it went smooth but they don't have either of the 2 new cans I want and Capitol does.

Yes, I have used both. First time with both of them was back in 2014 when I lived in TX, so not super relevant, but good experiences with both.

My two most recent suppressors were one through SS using my personal NFA trust (not the Single Shot Trust) and the other as an individual through CA.

A couple of differences.
  • CA will ship the suppressor to a dealer in your state, who will then ship it right to your door. It adds about 2-3 weeks to the whole process due to CLEO notification requirements, but it saves you a couple of trips to your LGS.
  • SS requires that you use a dealer in your area. The convenience factor there is that you can do your picture and fingerprints right there using one of their kiosks. For CA, you have to either manually do your fingerprints on paper and mail it to them, or go to one of the places that will do them digitally and give you an EFT file. That option usually costs around $50.
  • SS has gotten a bit of reputation for their ATF interface software being buggy and they make the dealer you are using do the certification, which can be tricky if your dealer isn't that tech savvy, which makes certifying a bit of a hassle. For my last one through them, it took over a week of trying every day before we got it to go. A friend of mine bought three at the same time and for him he had one go through first time. The second one took over a week, and the third one was almost 3 weeks before he could get it certified. With CA, it was a quick phone call and web session. Took less than 5 minutes.
Take away is that if one of those two have what you want in stock, then go for it. Each has their pluses and minuses.

Also, if you are already set up with SS, you can buy a silencer and have it form3 to your local SS dealer, who can then add it to you SS account and it will go through just like you bought it from SS. I did this for one last summer and it went smoothly.

I just did one last month (bought can from bauer and stamp/trust from SS), my dealer was savy and it was smooth. I already had a SS account and just needed to upload a new photo. Once the dealer added the can to my account (after they got it from bauer) it was a day or two till me trust was ready to certify and I called the dealer and we took care of it right then. Then I just waited a 4 weeks for the ATF to approve the trust.

No experience with Capital but my SS purchase was very easy. If you have some local SS dealers check with them to see if they have what you want. I told my dealer what I wanted and they got my Scythe in stock and called me before the SS website had them in stock.

Got all excited with all the quick approvals and finally ordered a center fire can. Now I just have to wait for the months long back-order to get my super fast atf approval.

In process with Silencer Central currently. I ordered a Scythe TI on Oct 7 and received ATF approval today. Has been relatively smooth so far, with shipping of forms to me and back being the majority of that 3 weeks.

I've ordered multiple from Capitol. They make it all very easy.
Just submitted one on 10/14 and was approved on 10/31.
I'm about to order some cans I don't have hosts for just to take advantage of these turn arounds...

CA has their act together that is for sure. Submitted eForm4 10/15 approved 10/17 tracking says I'll have it in hand 11/04. Less then thirty days from purchase to delivered in hand, certainly can't complain about that. It would have actually been even faster but I was out of town right after I purchased it and didn't get the paperwork all filled out and completed for seven days till I got back home.

I love the fact that I don't have to deal with a local SOT and it comes straight to my door.

Anyone have an order in with Bauer that got stuck in the move? Any comms from them? Phone still not working and no one is answering emails or seemingly communicating in any way. Had an order in weeks before the move and nothing.

Don’t like the sounds of that- just made an order with them because they actually had what I want in stock. Hopefully it’s not a huge delay to get it to my local dealer

My nephew is in the same boat. He ordered 2 weeks before they announced they were moving and it still has not shipped or any updates from them.

I did get an email from them today asking for another form from my ffl. Hopefully that means they are settled into the new spot

UPS dude delivered my new DA Nomad LTi XC earlier today. Less than a month from purchase to in hand. If anyone is in the market for a new can Capitol Armory out of Tx is awesome to work with and has their process down very well.
