This might be the wrong place but has anyone had experience with both Capitol Armory and Silencer shop? I have done SS and it went smooth but they don't have either of the 2 new cans I want and Capitol does.
Yes, I have used both. First time with both of them was back in 2014 when I lived in TX, so not super relevant, but good experiences with both.
My two most recent suppressors were one through SS using my personal NFA trust (not the Single Shot Trust) and the other as an individual through CA.
A couple of differences.
- CA will ship the suppressor to a dealer in your state, who will then ship it right to your door. It adds about 2-3 weeks to the whole process due to CLEO notification requirements, but it saves you a couple of trips to your LGS.
- SS requires that you use a dealer in your area. The convenience factor there is that you can do your picture and fingerprints right there using one of their kiosks. For CA, you have to either manually do your fingerprints on paper and mail it to them, or go to one of the places that will do them digitally and give you an EFT file. That option usually costs around $50.
- SS has gotten a bit of reputation for their ATF interface software being buggy and they make the dealer you are using do the certification, which can be tricky if your dealer isn't that tech savvy, which makes certifying a bit of a hassle. For my last one through them, it took over a week of trying every day before we got it to go. A friend of mine bought three at the same time and for him he had one go through first time. The second one took over a week, and the third one was almost 3 weeks before he could get it certified. With CA, it was a quick phone call and web session. Took less than 5 minutes.
