If you have a Costco near by look on the website or maybe in store they sell the klymit pads and I’m sure you know they have a great return policy so if you don’t like it you can take it back. Definitely go with a pillow worth there weight in gold but test them all out from air, foam, and down and see what kind you’ve liked the best. I tried 4 different ones before I made a decision.
I do have a costco. I will go check them out. I do appreciate all the info. Thanks man

Exped for me. The more important thing was to go with a wide . This allowed me to pull my knees up further and still be comfortable on the mat.

I’ve had a ton of air pads, Neoair xtherm, trekker, big Agnes axl, closed cell pads, etc. currently have a regular wide Nemo tensor. I spin around all over when I sleep. I have had similar issues as you with going numb and also back and shoulder pain sometimes that can wake me up about every 30-60min. Well during this whole lockdown I camped with my kid in the backyard and used my wife’s 2.5” kelty selfinflating pad that had air and foam in it and slept so well! I think with the air support combined with being able to sink into the foam a bit makes it almost feel like my foam mattress at home (not sure though). I ordered a Therm-a-Rest Prolite apex which is a 2” backpacking self inflating pad and will be trying that out once it comes in the mail. Not sure if it will produce the same results but if it does I will gladly take the extra size and 6oz weight penalty. More to come once it gets here.

How did the Prolite Apex work for you?

Exped. Im 5'11 and 180 lbs have yet to ever feel the ground. Packs down to about a Nalgene bottle. Maybe a few ounces heavier than the thermarest but it also does not have the crinkle of their insulation.

I am a side sleeper and use a short nemo tensor. I have had it for about 2 years now, and slept on it almost daily for about 6 months. It is honestly as comfortable as my bed at this point.

I actually prefer the short over the long.

With the long me legs end of feeling "above" my head, since my shoulder sinks into the pad, but my feet (being lighter) don't.

If I was going to buy a new one, I would buy the alpine line. I have the insulated tensor, and it feels a little cold < 20f even with a sufficient bag.

It was just ok. Best setup that I currently use is the nemo tensor reg/wide and With a short nemo switchback pad underneath. A little bit extra weight but way more comfortable than any other setup so far.

If you’re really hurting and losing sleep, carry in the Exped Mega Mat Lite 12. Consider trading off an enclosed shelter for a tarp system to equalize the extra weight and space.

ummm...yes kind if good advice or we can say approach for side sleepers because the neck and lower side gets frustrated and whole body tired when we sleep aside.

Good suggestion on the knee pillow. I was using a Sea to Summit Comfort Plus on a recent trip and was still experiencing hip pain, but the cot I was sleeping on may have been a contributing factor.

Have the prolite air as well and don’t love it. The Klymit insulated static V inflated to
Just a couple breaths below full has been the answer for me.

Knee pillow was a huge help to me as well. I use an inflatable Sea to Summit pillow and it works great!

Screw that xtherm.. I tested it in the store and it was like rolling around on tin cans. I have an exped (older/heavier model circa 2007, which I only use for jeep camping) and a nemo longbow.. AWESOME pad.
