Headlamp?

I know it’s been talked about all over but nothing recent here. So what brand and model is your go to for sheep? How many OZ are you willing to spend on it? Do you care if it’s 2.5 or 5.5 oz? Maybe more importantly than the weight what lumens do you want? Do you carry a back up?

I use the pretzel tactikka 450lm. I weighed it at 2.89oz. I believe they make lighter less lumen models as well. I also use this for morning runs switching it to different powers based on amounts of artificial light. It’s plenty bright in the backcountry. Comes with a long lasting rechargeable and can also use AAA batteries.

The only knock may be it doesn’t have a power lock out and it can’t be charged while in use. Knock on wood I haven’t needed those features

I took the Fenix HM50R V2 (2.75 oz) for its weight, battery life, and the fact that you could recharge it. I also took a Nightcore NU25 (1 oz) as a backup.

You may find yourself not even using it that much depending on when you go. This was 10:30 pm on a late night pack out in August.

I use a Black Diamond Storm, I think its 4.25 oz w/ 4 AAA batteries. Been using that model for years for everything. Have used it several times all the way through the night hiking and cutting up animals. This past year used it hiking through the entire night with plenty enough juice to use it for other things.

I wouldn't say its the best headlamp or the lightest but it works plenty well for me.

I notice you've started numerous threads asking about what brand and model for different gear for sheep hunting. Just pick something, try it out and go. 90% of it is all personal preference anyways.

Energizer works great, when not in use, turn one battery around so head lamp does not turn on accidentally.

Early season for hunts anywhere up to 17 days, I take a Black Diamond Spot and a Petzl E-Lite with a set of fresh lithium batteries installed before I leave.

Been using Petzl’s the last 10yrs guiding and they’ve been excellent. petzl bindi for an ultralight backup - 95% of the time I just use it as my main, and a discontinued model of the Tikka Size as my main. Last forever, rechargeable, great battery life, durability, weatherproof etc.

Third the Fenix HM50R. And you can get a spare battery to carry if you think you need it. Or I planned to use the battery out of my flex tail zero pump if I needed it but never ended up burning through the first battery

Costco had some Duracell branded headlamps, a 2 pack. They take 3 AAA or the supplied battery pack which is usb-c rechargeable. So I just take both battery packs along and that is generally good enough and I leave the battery out until it starts getting dark because as far as I know there's no lock.

Take a look at the COAST FL85R.
I have 2 of these and IMO, whether your a Mechanic, Farmer, or Hunter, this thing will go toe to toe anything else overall.

The best lamp I have found is the black diamond 500r storm. Holds a charge for a few months after a few hunts worth of use. Doesn’t turn itself on in your pack like a couple mentioned. Is more durable than the influencer propagated pos that breaks when walking through thick brush.

I have used Black Diamond, Petzl, Peak, Coast, and dozens of others. I prefer a rechargeable one, and I also carry a backup. I like about 450 lumens minimum. If you like red light, the Peak is probably the brightest one, but the strap could be better. Black Diamond Storm or Spot are good choices.

I use a Petzl Tikka. It's got lock out function and can use the rechargeable Petzl battery or 3 AAA. The Petzls first on click is LOW which I really appreciate. I've had some others that turn on in HIGH and I hated those.

After looking at all of the recommendations and looking at the performance of them.. these make the most sense to me. Primary would be the Black diamond storm 500R. Has a 2400ma battery and weighs 4.2 oz, has a lockout, red light 7hrs @500 LM 19hr @250 and 350hr @ 6. As a back up the NITECORE NU20 classic 360 LM weighs 1.3OZ Red, 2hr @350 5Hr @ 200 and. 7Hr @ 38 LM. Want to thanks all of the responses and help.

I just had the opportunity to use a Fenix HM62T overnight on a SAR call and was very impressed by it. I will order another one and replace my current headlamps with it.
