I have both the ultra 5 and scythe and I would say the scythe is def more tame than the ultra 5. I can’t quantify it but running on the same rifles the ultra 5 is noticeably louder. Neither I would say are quiet so I’m not sure the difference is huge but it’s there. No experience with ab suppressors.
Thank you. Very helpful.

Have to say that "compares better than Ultra 7" is surprising. That quite an endorsement, thank you.
Besides blowing up on short magnums….the scythe is a legit can…..besides blowing up on magnums.

On another note, this should be too surprising. It’s a newer can (maybe more efficient baffles?), and volume is still king (with exception “maybe” on 3D printed cans). The volume of the scythe is very close to the 1” longer ultra7, omega30, DD STi etc….its just a tad thicker.

If you compared volume to sound there is a relationship.

For those of you have shot the Scythe Ti, TBAC Ultra 5 Gen 2, and or AB Raptor 6 head-to-head for comparison, which one is the most pleasant to shoot? I am particularly interested if the AB Raptor 6 was compared with and without reflex.

I've read this entire thread last night but only remember one observation saying they felt the Scythe was (slightly?) better than the TBAC.

I understand there is a weld separation concern.
I'd say it compares more to the raptor 8 stack than the 6. I dont own any TBAC cans but the ultra 7 is regarded as being louder than the scythe i believe. Not sure if I've compared it to the 6 with a large reflex like the 5", im happy to next time im at the range(might take me a bit). But at that point its sort of a silly comparison, given the volume and weight difference there would be between them if using a huge reflex. If not as concerned about weight, there is definitely quieter cans than the scythe out there. Hope that helps

I am happy with my Scythe Ti; it has been an excellent can.
While we are talking about different options for the scythe…. I shot a match last weekend with the creators of a directional brake attachment for the scythe and other suppressors. I know we all want shorter and lighter for hunting, but if you’re like me and like the versatility to be able to add the brake for a match then swap for a flat cap for hunting, this product is awesome. Recoil reduction was considerably better than compared to the 1 port brake it comes with or even the omega brake. I’ll be ordering one for matches where i have to wear ear pro anyway and recoil matters most.

Thanks for sharing this; I may need to pick one up. My Scythe Ti has been excellent, but I have only used it on a .308 thus far.

One more question. Did they say what the approximate wait time was for the pre-order? I don't see it listed on their website. Thanks!

Haven't done enough apples to apples comparisons between my gen1 u7 and a scythe but they can't be too far apart. If anything, i'd guess that the edge goes to the u7 to my ears.

I don't dwell on sound that much though. I wear ear pro when i shoot em and pay more attention to other things. It's more of a weight/length/recoil mitigation benefit on the scythe vs the reliability reputation and simplicity of the u7 when choosing between the two for me.

I would say my Scythe is as quiet or has a slight edge to my gen2 ultra 7. Close sound wise. Recoil reduction goes to scythe. The new brake adapter is interesting for NRL match or something else and using ear pro. however, with all the posts about scythe failures, I'll probably just leave it on the 6.5 creed and use something else on 7prc and 300 prc. My magnus is much quieter than both, and more recoil reduction than ultra 7.

TBAC has an interesting graph on their website comparing the different cans sound and recoil reduction data, ultra 7 recoil reduction is quite low. Sound reduction for its size is pretty impressive. As others above have pointed out, volume and design matters. Some interesting developments with the 3d printed cans. interested to see how the UM OTB turns out as well. If you have time and can tolerate it pew science and the jay situation podcast have lots of info/data on several top performing cans. Just have to sift through and find the ones you're interested in

Do you have an RR magnus or one of the regular ones?

Mines the regular magnus.

a magnus rr or magnus s rr would be sweet for the 300, love shooting it with SRS ti pro brake, but even with double ear pro I wonder if long term damage is happening. But with the rr models I'd still want to run ear pro, and at that point I'm not sure if I'd want the length and weight for hunting. Would be nice for range days or matches. Can still spot impacts well with regular magnus on 7 prc, less consistently with 300

I talked to a Silencer Central Rep( they sell them all) last week at a NWTF show and he said that Silcencerco had a weld problem on the first runs of Sythes, they had corrected, and they have not had any problems with the more recent production. I guess time will tell.

I am not sure that story is accurate when you look at the wide range of serial numbers affected.

If a motivated slide member built a spreadsheet and contacted all the members on here to compile serial numbers then we could have the answer. Not it....
