redneckbmxer dropped off the net.
Looks like he got the hammer.
If I quote you, can he see it?

Nope. I’ve got hope that it’ll be scanned tomorrow (the latest time frame the PO told me under normal circumstances)

But I also have a case opened and USPS is working on it internally. They noted that it’s marked as hazmat and said that would not effect the package being scanned, only delay shipping time from 3 days to 14.

I've seen less frequent scans with big boxes, I wouldn't fret too much.

Yes I’m a dbag for giving people advice that I know to be true so that they’re not breaking federal law.

No, you are being a dbag for not listening when people are telling you are wrong. You only have to declare when shipping by "common or contract carriers". That does not include the USPS.

As far as listening to Postmasters regarding firearms laws, I wouldn't recommend that. Their purview is the USPS regulations. If you want to know firearms law, talk to an ATF agent. If you would like, I can give you the number of one.

Re-read the first paragraph, clearly states certification

432.3 Rifles and Shotguns

Except under 431.2, unloaded rifles and shotguns are mailable. Mailers must comply with the rules and regulations under 27 CFR, Part 478, as well as state and local laws. The mailer may be required by the USPS to establish, by opening the parcel or by written certification, that the rifle or shotgun is unloaded and not ineligible for mailing. The following conditions also apply:
I routinely deal with US Government contracts with contractual specifications.

“May” is optional; “Shall” is a non-optional requirement (as in mandatory).

“The mailer may be required….” indicates it is optional for the postmaster to have sender open or certify.

My local postmaster has never asked me to perform either.

I’ve had some mo-rons at other USPS facilities throw a hissy fit at the mention of firearm; one refused to ship, another spent 30 minutes researching their regulations only to determine I was correct. I’ll never mail from those locations again.

All of the haters have shown up. You aren’t yet but you will be now. I couldn’t care less that you wouldn’t buy anything from me. I named my new service business in a way that it would deter people that I don’t want to deal with from calling me and that’s part of my livelihood so if my attitude is all it takes to keep certain people away then it’s a win in my book.
Suck it.

That’s the most asinine thing ever. You would think as soon as they saw hazmat they would want it out of their possession as soon as they could, not delay things. However, we are talking about an arm of the government

USPS’s system is anything but great. I used to own a very large ecommerce business and about 25% of the packages shipped never showed a scan in their system or any updates until the delivery scan.

You should have gotten it scanned and asked for a receipt when you dropped it off though as proof it was shipped out. Yes post offices are often busy and you have to wait your turn in line. Did you declare it as a long gun when you dropped it off? Because you’re legally required to do that and most post offices make you fill out an affidavit now and for years they’ve made me show them a physical copy of the FFL it’s shipping too and make a copy for their records.
Never been asked to declare a long gun. You sure it’s a legal requirement? I’m not sure about other states but in Alaska I can ship a long gun to another resident without a ffl.

I’ve shipped in pelican cases as well as in boxes. Never once have I had to fill anything special out. Nor declare (been doing this mailing thing for 12 years now too).
