Shipping long gun private party to FFL.. where did I go wrong?

Your post office isn’t following policy then. The only time they don’t require seeing an FFL is if it’s being sent to the manufacturer or a gunsmith for repair. I’ve had discussions with 3 different post masters recently regarding this and they also just started requiring the affidavit for “shipper of firearms” to be filled out.

It’s the government so it’s expected to be anything but consistent but after speaking to the post masters and being shown regulations that’s their official policy.

You are being lied to.

Here you go genius. Federal law actually states written notification which is why they now require the affidavit to be filled out. You just admitted to breaking a federal law.

You can go into any post office and look at the posters on the wall and they all state the code and that you must declare anything that is perishable, hazardous or potentially dangerous. You 100% absolutely positively HAVE to declare a firearm when you’re shipping it it through USPS, UPS, or FedEx. It’s federal law.
He is shipping to a ffl…that’s the licensed person. He isn’t breaking a law.

That’s the most asinine thing ever. You would think as soon as they saw hazmat they would want it out of their possession as soon as they could, not delay things. However, we are talking about an arm of the government

Considering that there was "probably" no consumer commodity or hazmat designation on the package itself, the only people who were privy to the "Hazmat" classification were the shipper and Pirate Ship. The knuckleheads scanning at the counter or the automated scanners along the way were clueless.

Sorry — how do you know he’s banned? I can still click his profile.
honestly, just went off what everyone else was reporting. maybe it's a temporary ban, i don't think profiles have lingered for folks that are permanently gone

I have an FFL and have shipped many firearms via UPS, FedEx and USPS. I've not shipped anything via UPS/FedEX since they changed their rules. They wanted a firearm declared when I shipped with them. Some, like once or twice, would ask for my FFL. They were a PITA even before they're ban on firearms.

At the two PO's that I've shipped from, the folks behind the counter have said I don't need to declare it and they've never asked for my FFL or the receiver's so I no longer declare them. I don't put loaded ammo in with firearms although I've put empty brass.

I've not shipped a handgun through USPS so I cannot comment experience on that.

I always get a receipt when I drop off my pre-labeled boxes.

Edit: UPS requires you to have a contract with them to ship firearms. Oops.

I think UPS might have relaxed their rules, you can still ship firearms through them and they explicitly tell you not to declare that it is a firearm.

I had the same question about newtosavage
He gone as well?

I just started using Pirate Ship.
For those that don't know, it’s a service that allows you to print out postage for USPS and UPS with a little savings. Only hang up I have so far is I use USPS ground atvantage. Some time Pirate Ship won’t show it.
And so far I have received a tracking number with everything Ive sent.
OP did you check PS for a number before hand?
