I've done this twice and have had bad experiences both times. One was a WI whitetail shipping to my place in LA and the other was a CO elk going to Chicago. It is expensive ($600-900) but for the me the value lost is in being able to butcher your own animals. The butcher turned 90% of my whitetail into bratwurst (not what I wanted but that's another story) which arrived only partial frozen. Unbeknownst to me, when I put into my freezer a bunch of the packaging cracked open (presumable from thawing out then refreezing) and spoiled about half the shipment. The CO elk arrived frozen solid but only 85lbs of total meat which about half was hamburger. No backstraps or tenderloins, I brought in at very least 150lbs of elk. Very suspicious. Anyways, now I drive to all my hunts so I can bring my meat home in coolers. I learned the hard way. I get that may not be a possibility if you're coming all the way from NY but something to think about.
