Senate vote public lands sale

This has probably been done already but I'm not looking through the 16 pages to find it. Here is a link to contact your senators and the email I sent mine regarding the sale of public lands.

Senator Hoeven,

I am writing to express my deep concern over the provisions in the Big Beautiful Bill that propose the sale of millions of acres of public lands. As a dedicated outdoor enthusiast, I urge you to vote no on any legislation that would allow the privatization of these invaluable lands that belong to all Americans.

Public lands are not just patches of earth—they are essential to the well-being of millions of people, including North Dakotans, who rely on them for recreation, conservation, and access to nature. From hiking and fishing to camping and wildlife watching, these public spaces provide immeasurable benefits to our economy and quality of life. Each year, millions of outdoor enthusiasts, from local families to tourists, visit these lands, supporting jobs, local businesses, and tourism economies across the state.

The idea of selling off public lands sets a dangerous precedent that could lead to the privatization of large swaths of our natural heritage. Once these lands are sold, they are likely to be closed off to the public or developed in ways that prioritize profit over the environmental, recreational, and historical value they hold. We could lose access to critical outdoor spaces that help maintain North Dakota's unique landscapes and biodiversity, jeopardizing our connection to the natural world.

Moreover, public lands are crucial for future generations. As stewards of the land, it is our responsibility to ensure that these areas remain protected and accessible for all people, not just a select few who can afford to buy them. The sale of these lands will have lasting consequences on future generations' ability to enjoy the same natural beauty that we hold dear today.

I strongly urge you to consider the long-term ramifications of such a decision. Instead of selling these precious lands, we should be investing in their preservation, ensuring that they remain public and accessible for future generations of outdoor enthusiasts, hunters, anglers, and families.

Please stand up for the people of North Dakota and vote no on any bill that threatens our public lands. The health of our natural spaces, our economy, and our communities depend on it.

Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I trust you will make the right choice in preserving the beauty and accessibility of our public lands.

Sincerely,

Mike Lee is the one who proposed the senate version of the bill, I don’t know what you mean by “his man”

Donald Trump is in charge of the federal government. So saying it’s bad is saying that the federal government we have now is bad. You can’t in good faith keep saying anti government stuff when you become the government.

I’ll call the reps I voted in but they are both for sure no votes already and already representing my interest. Guess I voted well? 🤔

That is attitude is exactly why nothing gets accomplished. Its an either or opinion of the whole vs being able to see merits on individual issues. This goes for both hard line sides.

Do i want suppressors taken off the nfa-- yes
Do i want public land sold---No

Its not always black and white some times you have to be able to see the grey area.

For sure. It was regarding the point posted here where someone had their representative respond that even though this is unpopular the government is bad therefore we must get rid of the land.

It’s like, but you’re the government and your party is in charge? Do your job and make it better? At some point they have to accept they are the government they own the successes and failures. You can’t keep breaking shit in the house after taking ownership and be like ohhhh noooo we better sell cheap look at what the owners have done!

I think you’re attaching more to what I said than I intended. I’ll be happy when a nonresident married lesbian couple shoots an elk with a tax stamp free suppressor in pristine well funded and protected Wyoming wilderness without a guide. I saw that once. That’s my party.

More importantly, were they hot lesbians? 😂

  • 2-3 Million acres to be sold for "affordable housing."
  • Will include a lot of USFS lands, not just Dept of Interior lands as in the House amendment and FLTFA.
  • Proceeds used to offset budget gaps, not replacement lands as per FLTFA.
  • Lee's language has Montana exempted from any land sales in hopes he can gain the votes of Daines & Sheehy, votes needed to move it forward.
This is ridiculous. Thanks for the breakdown

Nuance is important.

We need a complete solution to the problem from you or I don't wanna hear your opinion 🙄

Welp Cruz got returned a canned response with a lot of nothing (expected) and Trump promoted the land sale during a press conference. Not feeling too hopeful at the moment. Response below:

"Thank you for contacting me regarding your concerns over the federal budget. These concerns cross a range of issues, including the national debt, inflation, and the economic security of the American people. Input from fellow Texans significantly informs my decision-making and empowers me to better represent our state.

Over the 119th Congress, lawmakers have faced numerous deadlines related to these issues. Texans are right to be concerned throughout these cycles. The task of solving these issues has been complicated by unprecedented partisanship in Washington, DC, which is as severe as I have seen in my 13 years as a Senator for Texas in the United States Senate. Throughout my time, and during this Congress, I have sought to balance the need to fund programs that are necessary for the safety, security, and prosperity of Americans with our acute need to cut spending and put our budget on a course toward sustainability.

The United States government is spending at completely unsustainable levels. Next year, the government is estimated to spend $1 trillion on interest on the national debt, and that amount is projected to nearly double by FY2035. Our national debt has surpassed $35 trillion. Congress has continued to raise the federal debt limit without any serious attempt to curb spending. That debt, as well as the interest that the government has to pay on that debt, is getting so large that it is threatening our ability to fund basic government programs, including programs that are critical to our national security and to services that Americans rely on. Additionally, such spending has produced record inflation, slowed economic growth, and caused immense harm to families in Texas and across America.

Over the next couple of months, Congress will again take up and consider significant legislation related to the authorization and appropriation of spending, including the appropriations bills that fund all parts of the federal government. As these deliberations proceed, I will seek to balance the need to fund critical programs with the necessity of cutting unsustainable spending.

Thank you again for sharing your views with me. Please feel free to contact me in the future about any issue important to you or your family. It is an honor to serve you and the people of Texas."

Saw this article this morning. Trigger warning: its the Huffington Post. Posting because its a mainstream rag discussing the issue. Article also features a Meateater tweet. Hopefully the message is getting out.

Conservatives Turn On GOP Senator Over Plan To Sell Off Millions Of Acres Of Public Land

“I don’t think it’s clear that we would even get substantial housing as a result of this,” Sen. Martin Heinrich (N.M.), the energy committee’s ranking Democrat, told the Associated Press. “What I know would happen is people would lose access to places they know and care about and that drive our Western economies.”

Meanwhile, Republican Rep. Ryan Zinke (Mont.) has also spoken out against the plan.
“I have said from day one I would not support a bill that sells public lands,” he wrote Wednesday on X. “I am still a no on the senate reconciliation bill that sells public lands.”
