S&B Klassik 3-12....reliable and good stuff?

Well, heck, I just had the 3.2mil version installed in January...sounds like maybe I should have procrastinated even longer before getting a dial turret, wont affect my hunting but would make practice a bit more convenient. Probably doesnt make sense to switch out the brand new turret, but I'll be interested in the cost.

Agree, almost worth picking up a 3-12 with P3 reticle and then adding the dial..

I've had a 3-12x50 with a P3 reticle and dial for 5ish years now and I love it. Probably not the best scope at any 1 thing, but a really good all around option.

To be clear, did we confirm that a 4.8 turret does indeed exist on the newest 3-12x42 Klassic models (I understand questions remain concerning retrofitting older models)? Assuming this is true, if I place an order on this scope today from eurooptic is there any confidence in what turret I should expect to receive? Any suggestions on how I would go about confirming (e.g., serial number range, model year, etc)?

However, he said their shipment did just arrive roughly one month ago so would likely be the latest version. If I pull the trigger on an order I'll post an update with what I get.

I've sent a 3-12x42 in to the S&B US service center for addition of the newer 4.8 mil dial. After I get it back I'll update here with details. It may be a while before I get it back.

I heard back from Schmidt and Bender, here is what they had to say—they were able to confirm most of my questions, but it sounds like this is also very new to them so price and timeline are still unknowns, as is what turret factory-bdc scopes will come with, and when. I will be interested in the particulars when @JCMCUBIC get his scope back. It seems clear however that a new scope purchased today will not have the new turret.

My question:
There is a rumor going around that the 3-12 klassik scope has a 4.8mil BDC turret available in addition to the current 3.2mil version. The website doesn’t have much info, can you confirm if this 4.8mil turret exists, if it fits existing Klassik scopes or if its only for a new model, and what the cost of having it installed is?

S&B response:
The 32cm knob has been discontinued and replaced with a 48cm version….the click value is confirmed at 1cm. The new parts need to be ordered from Germany, we do not have them in stock.

Thanks! Can you confirm if the new turret will allow a maximum 4.8 mils of turret movementl (as the old scope limited you to 3.2mils of turret movement so a rail was not helpful), if these will fit existing Klassik scopes? Will the new bdc scopes come with the 4.8 mil turret?


S&B:

The mounting system will dictate how much travel the scope gets after zeroing. The scope only has 40moa of total internal travel so if most of your travel is taken up obtsaining a zero there wont be much left and you will not get all 4.8mil. I would suggest a 10moa rail if possible as there is not enough travel to utilize a 20moa rail with this scope. I would think the 48cm knob would come on new production scopes but can’t say for sure, that would need to be confirmed with Germany.

I used this scope all last year in varied conditions and felt like it was solid in almost all conditions though I tend to leave hunting scopes on 5x 90% of the time. If the reticle is ever an issue you can use the illumination but I never needed to cut it on.

That is some fantastic info. Thank you. I’ve wanted to try a S&B for a long time. I’m not much of a dialer, so those little dots at high power would probably work well for me.

The dots become useable for me at about 6x, maybe 8x. Thats what I did, used just the dots for the last year. I found I wasnt able to be as precise as I wanted, so I had the bdc turret installed.
