RTIC Coolers.. Cheap Yeti Alternative

When RTIC first came out they offered a 7yr warranty (2yrs more) than their competition Yeti. Last week they made a drastic change from 7yrs to 90 days. Yup that's right I said 90 days. To me this is completely unacceptable and goes against the companies whole message to the consumer. I do have one of their coolers and I don't have any complaints as of yet, besides the turn around time from order to delivery. But if they are going to make such a drastic change in warranty, what does that say about their confidence in their product long term. The reason I bought a Yeti was they stood behind their product and it's track record. I took a chance on RTIC and planned on buying more with the soft side coolers out now and the 115 coming. For now I will not be purchasing anymore products from them and will wait to see what they do in the future. Just my thoughts.....

I wonder if the guys who purchased these coolers last year under the 7 year warranty get screwed over by this as well. I would assume so. I was thinking of purchasing one this year but after seeing this I think I'll go with an Orion instead.

Their official position is if you received your cooler or merchandise before last week when they changed the policy it will be honored by the 7yr warranty. But if you have pre-ordered and are awaiting shipment your screwed. I know three buddies that have since canceled and as I stated I will not be ordering anything else from them. At this rate who knows if they will even still be around to honor the original 7yr if your lucky enough to fall in that bracket. They are quickly becoming a very suspect company!

I haven't liked these guys way of doing business from the start.

Now this. What a joke.

They are basically saying "Sorry guys, we realized these are junk, can't stand behind them quite like we thought."

A high end cooler is on the list for me this year, I'll gladly be giving my money to another company.

That's a total bait and switch.

I was waiting for them to get more inventory before I buy but I think I may pass, even though they are located 5 min from me..

Think I may just pull the trigger on the Pelican I've been eyeballing...

Exactly. I'm suspect of any company that can't come up with their own design and just copies someone else. That's not a business model, that's just laziness. There's no such thing as, "just like a so-and-so, but cheaper..." and getting a good deal.

I don't know, I wouldn't get that fired up about it. Most companies will honor a true manufactures defect regardless. They might be running into people abusing the return policy. Costco had to change their return policy timeframe due to this. (Customers use a TV for just shy of a year and return it for a newer model).

These plastic white coolers get scratched up and dirty fast, regardless of the brand. Its the nature of the plastic. Still work fine, but in a couple years they look beat up. That's why I buy Canyon Coolers. Far better colors that will look better longer. ....but back to ARTIC, they are half the price of a Yeti. I doubt you'll have a defect 3 years into it. If you do, just buy another. Still end up only spending the same price as a Yeti.

Pelicans....design is not the best use of space when packing a truck.

I think I'll go with Canyon, Pelican, or Orion. I've been disappointed with my dad's Yeti Roadie which luckily he got for free from a supplier.

I just don't like Yeti's business model.

I've never heard of Canyon. I would go for an Orion in a heart beat but they are a little too pricey for me. Pelicans are in my price range and I really like the latches on them.

Yeah, reasonable prices and while the latch isn't as solid as the pelican I like it better than the Yeti. Also, it has a lifetime warranty. There are retailers around, so you could try to find somewhere to check them out.

Rokslide did a cooler showdown awhile back and the Canyons came in 2nd place only to Orion on how long it kept ice. Check it out here.

Check your local Home Depot, I swooped a pelican 65 for 170 out the door maybe 2 months ago. Guy said they were no longer going to be carrying them so they were trying to move their stock.

I've been really happy with it.

I've got a K2 that I also really like. The K2 is plenty nice, but the pelican will last longer than I will be alive.

Why not?

Just find it odd you don't like Yeti and you've also been banging the drum for the company that blatantly ripped off anything and everything they could from Yeti.

From my research they are just as good as Yetti, but made in the US with amazing customer service. It is had to find any impartial reviews though. Here's a thread discussing them with comments from the company mixed in: http://discussions.texasbowhunter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=518660

They are a little on the expensive side as once you factor in shipping they cost almost the same as Yeti. Their soft coolers are interesting though.

I would buy another yeti. I would also consider another high end cooler like an Orion ect . But I would not even consider Rtic even at half the price. I can't stand seeing a blatant rip off like that. I try to stay clear of classless people in my life and that includes companies.

Same here. I hate companies that can't come up with their own thing. Like Taurus copying the M9. "It's the exact same thing, but half as much." No way. I have three Yetis and I'd get another, but I've had them since before the cooler market exploded so options a few years ago were thin. Nowdays you've got endless choices to shop around.

I just saw that RTIC changed their warranty on ALL coolers, no matter when you bought it, to 90 days..

I bought 4 blue igloo coolers for 15$ a piece at target on sale. Shot a mule deer and drove 1700 miles home and never had to add ice. I recon that spending that much on a cooler isn't going to fit my needs. I never pay for ice. I rob it from the ice machine at the hotel I stay at or I freeze my own at home.

Am I the only one who thinks that spending that kind of money on a cooler seems a little ridiculous?

I'm a budget hunter. And my wife says these are not in my budget! haha

Been there done that. I also used to shoot a rifle with a taped together stock and a bow that well, I wouldn't dare shoot it today.

I think that you certainly can get by with less expensive equipment but if you can afford it, there are some amazing breakthroughs in technology and great equipment out there. The newer "tools" sure do make things easier.
