Rokslide Push-Up Challenge!!! (BIG PRIZES)

I'm sitting at 63 push-ups, but I somehow think that I better get to at least 75 or 80 to even stand a chance at being the highest number. I'd need more than a month of serious push-up training to have a chance at knocking out a 100+. I guess I have a slight advantage since i have maintained my fitness for AF SERE Specialist School. I can knock out 15 plus military pull-ups if that counts for anything.

Good Luck to Everyone, I'll post my video before the deadline.

I see that the rules state to complete pushups without stopping. Under military standards there are authorized rest positions. Are we allowed to use the authorized rest positions or are we terminated when we stop the pushup movement?

Seems like the only rules are nothing can touch the ground except your hands and feet. Aron said you can shake your hands out or whatever you want, just don't let anything else touch. As far as resting positions i have been taking small breaks in downward dog, until someone says thats a no-no I'll keep doing it. Basic rules are on the first page of this thread. I hope to post a video before February so if I screw up anywhere they can call me out on it. Good luck guys.

I'm in. Won't win, as it'll take over 125+ to get it done, but I'll give er a go. I do push-ups pretty regularly in my daily workout, so we'll see how it goes. Actually, Ill shut the office door and give you a number as of this moment. It'll be a little off, since I did chest and back in the gym this morning, but its a starting point.

I won't be in the money but I'm hoping for 70ish... Got entirely too long of arms for this competition! :)

After a week of doing pushups like crazy I am in the same boat as you, Mike. These damn gorilla arms of mine sure make it tough lol!

No kidding!! I can bust out 50-55 pretty easily 2-3 times in a row with 5-10 minutes in between each set. Just kinda on a plateau at this point... :-/

I figure we have about 2 1/2 weeks of training left keep busting man!... take 4 days off... make a video fully rested and just bang em' out!

For all you boys with long arms...I'll trade you 10 pushups for your extra 2'' of draw length!

Here's a question... Is it better to max out 5-6 sets with significant (5-10-20+ minutes) periods of rest or to hit those 5-6 sets with minimal resting periods while pushing to muscle fatigue every set??

Speaking from personal experience only (with a data point of one...myself), but I did the 100 push up challenge a year ago (google it). The short of it is each day (M-W-F) you do 5 sets of push ups with rests in between. The rests between push-up sets is no longer than 90 seconds. I found that when I would max out during the last set on Friday, I'd come back Monday and I'd lose push-ups. So every week it was like 2 steps forward, one step back.

I say this as a caution to test when you take that "one step back"...before the last day of the challenge.

Good program! I just started week 4. I'm seeing the same "two steps forward, one step back" progress as rhunter.

What was your diet like during that challenge?? I know that for myself, proper diet and getting enough protein was responsible for probably 50% of my gains... Lack of diet and I would go downhill.

That's a good point. I didn't change anything for my diet during the program. So not McDonalds, but not atkins or paleo, etc. Something to look into if I do it again. I only hit 53 as my max.

Now that I think about it, I know that when I was in college and hit the social scene hard on the weekends and didn't keep up my protein intake my Monday workouts would always suffer and it'd take me a few days to get back on track...
