Riding two people on an atv designed for one person

@sndmn11 Do you know exactly what happened in that accident? I've been on some sketchy roads in Colorado and that picture is definitely not one of them. I'm assuming speed and/or alcohol...
I do not, and didn't want to talk to anybody involved so I wouldn't end up having to write anything down.

The driver appeared to have a broken clavicle, potential shoulder dislocation, and potential rib issues. The passenger had head injuries and was clearly deceased.

The ATV the people were on is the one with the cooler on it. No people. None were wearing helmets and I didn't notice any disturbance of dirt/grass/gravel/rocks tonight indicate something drastic took place. The only damage to the ATV was a red light lens in the grass and the cooler lid in the grass. I can think through a few scenarios, and they are all preventable.

The bar shouldn't just be it's ok if govt will let you do it. You also can ride a ATV recklessly and way above your skill level, but you probably shouldn't do it. As someone noted, recovery from ATV wrecks is usually pretty tough.

As Chris Rock famously said, "you can drive your car with your FEET if you WANT TO, but that don't make it a good f---ing idea!"

Some terminology needs clarified for those of you that don’t have teenagers. Despite the media’s insistence on political correctness, when you see two dudes on a motorcycle or ATV, it is NOT called “riding double”, or “2 people riding”. It’s called “Riding Nuts to Butts”, or just simply “Ridin Homo”.

"Ridin' Diddy"

Have even hauled out 1 1/2 elk on 1 while riding double.
We ride under control and take turns who is driving, I like to ride in back and let the spouse block the wind.

I've rode double on atv with a whole quartered bull elk with 2 packs and bow case! It is a wonder there isn't more serious accidents than they are.

Pure conjecture....I think that alcohol is most likely the culprit. After 20 plus years as a trooper, I never went to an offroad vehicle crash where alcohol wasn't a factor.
