Revic BLR10b Rangefinding Binoculars

Anyone have an idea if the gen 1’s will be going on sale anytime soon? Debating buying a demo pair right now.

They had a huge sale last fall/winter for 1k off not sure how many are even available. They are out of stock in most places.

Yeah I was kinda hoping for that sale again. Supposedly there’s a last shippment of gen 1s coming to some dealers

If the Gen 2’s will ever get released I’ll sell my gen 1’s for cheaper than the sale was. But I’ll need the new ones to come out within a week or two so I can get them and get them ready for a hunt I leave for in late Sept.

I just bought a demo pair today for $1800 total. Did some calling around to euro optics, Camry land, and multiple other dealers. No one has any word on an upcoming sale of the gen 1s and most didn’t even have them in stock. The ones that did have them in stock would only do $2300 at the lowest.

Gunwerks pretty much said they didn’t have anymore gen 1s shipping out and they were unaware on sales.

I should have bought them when they went on sale. Thought the gen 2s would blow the gen 1s away but that seems to not be the case, based on my reading.

Was wondering if some folks who have more hours and applications behind the Revic Gen 1s and Gen 2s could comment?

I’m using them both side by side the last couple days in the far north of Minnesota.

This morning in particular has been intermittent blowing snow drifts of 15-25 mph.

While the data set is small, and the application somewhat niche for how most hunt and shoot, I seem to be consistently getting more “short laser strike readings” on the gen 2s than the gen 1s.

Basically… Both units on a tripod side by side, ranging the same rocks/trees/targets with ranges from 210 yards to 856 yards.

During heavier snow drifts, the Gen 1s seem to give correct ranges to the targets more often than the Gen 2s. I am seeing easily double the amount of 45-65 yard snow drifts readings on the Gen 2s versus the Gen 1s.

Has this been field tested or validated in any fashion for some real data? Is the “new laser” more susceptible to this niche application while being faster and more accurate in more ideal/normal conditions?

@Aaron Davidson @Formidilosus @Ryan Avery ?

I haven’t seen it.

Do you have the RF set to “far” on the Gen 2’s?

I checked that when I first noticed and they are both set to “near”mode. Haven’t tried playing around with the 4 different settings yet.

Change to far and you should be good. The beam divergence on the G2’s might be getting you on “near”.

Is there a preference on near vs far? Leave on one or the other or switch depending on situation? I leave mine at near with the idea that I always range the base of the target if i can to be safe and if it is on a skyline I am safe with near.

I’ve exclusively used “near” on the Gen 1s since I starting using them with no issues that I know of. I believe @huntnful has also left his in “near” mode as well.

To add to this. My general workflow is range target, range terrain directly underneath target, re-range target.

If there is a large discrepancy I move to range target, range ground in front of target, re-range target, etc.

How does Gen I compare to Gen II? Worth the price difference?
Glass is better, reticle is better, laser is faster in ideal conditions, and the ballistics info being on one single screen instead of flashing to a second screen for windage is great.

The last one I mentioned is the best feature out of all of them.

With the Gen 1s being nearly half the price brand new right now… that’s a tough call.

Yeah I leave mine on near for almost everything hunting and shooting related.

Still rocking the gen 1’s and they’ve been solid

That is how I have done it in both competition and hunting. Thank you. Just didn't know if one may be better than the other that I was missing! My gen 1's have been fantastic. There has only been 2 instances I wasn't thrilled with. On 1 NRL Hunter stage they would not spit out dope for some reason, after the screen cleared a few minutes later they acted normal. Other time was ranging in fog. Visibility was probably 600-700 yards but max I could get from the rangefinder was 100. Both were probably extreme instances because other than that they have been bombproof.

Default is “far” (or LR far) for me. I can always control the backstop, I cannot control if it randomly picks up grass or obstacles in front of the target. “Far” also gets through snow, fog, and rain better.

And range the feet of the animal.
