For that use, I would choose the new Geovid R’s without hesitation. The RF is better, and I actually do prefer them in use.
Are you talking different uses than the revic?
For me, I would buy the Revics (and will when this is over), and not the Geovids again
In a perfect world I'd try both in the field but that is not a possibility for me. I'm still fairly certain I want to switch to a rangefinder without ballistics

He was responding to someone that wants the best rf with no ballistic capability

Yes. I was responding to the person who wanted a bino RF without ballistics.

The Leica Geovid R’s are your huckleberry. I’ve seen 4-5 sets, and they have been solid. The RF performance is greatly improved over the prior versions.

I cannot decide what to do after reading all of this. I run 10x50 EL’s now and a separate RF for western hunting. I’d like a RF bino with ballistics but don’t want to sacrifice clarity too much since I spot a lot of game and details with my EL’s. Especially at low light. Just don’t want to lose that ability. I really just need to try them. I’ve been thinking Zeiss RF 10x42 but there’s also the 10x42 Leica Geovid Pro’s. Then these get released! Very very hard decision…

I recently reviewed the Leica Geovid R for magazine Vapentidningen.
Before this I used Leica Geovid BRF (the "old" R) since it arrived in 2004.
Before that Swarovski binos + separate Leica LRF.
Now I use Swarovski EL Range 10x42 because the price was right at time of purchase.

My opinions:
  • Combined bino and laser is a superior option to separate units if you want to kill animals. Beyond species and sex, I don't need to ID or classify animals further.
  • I've glassed up thousands of deer under difficult conditions (cover, weather, range, light) with the Geovid BRF and it has helped me kill 100's. It has become my personal benchmark for optical quality as "more" doesn't seem to do anything for efficiency unless I switch to thermal. I found the Geovid R to be slightly better. I found the Swarovski to be slightly better for colour at twilight, but I am starting to detest a couple of details (menu system I don't want to enter, carry loops opening, objective covers opening) to the point that it is detrimental for use as the optic isn't "on demand" when I raise it only to find it clogged by water or having accidentally pushed the menu button when leaning on terrain. The "shape factor" also isn't that good on the Swarovski as the Leica, especially with gloves. Leica button much better. With my Leica BRF a round of PVC tape on objective covers was the only modification required to keep correct tension for cups and the optics "on demand). With the Swarovski, I have to carry them in a "shower cap" which slows me down and I find myself not glassing enough. So much annoyed by these details that I would not buy the Swarovski again.
I get this weather 250 days a year, hence my focus on lenscaps and raingear. Once lenses are wet, getting a clean lens & clear view can be quite the operation. It is not as simple as a "wipe"...

This is not unusual viewing conditions for me. Add twilight. The Leica/ Swaro laser frequently struggle beyond 400-500. My BRF would sometimes not do more than 200 so noticably poorer performance.

Normal. I would say this is a very clearly presented animal and shot around "the usual" time/light conditions.

  • My Leica BRF laser hasn't been all that great in rain or mist, despite good view of target. My Swarovski is more reliable, but fell flat on it's arse in New Mexico - difficult to get readings.
  • If the pricepoint of Geovid R is a benchmark for "full hunting value" (a term I just made up) you are paying a lot for very little extra when you reach for the most expensive Leica/Swaro/Zeiss. I don't think they add any real value to your hunt.
  • I have used the Revic riflescopes (smart and dumb) and was perfectly happy with the picture and details I had with those units. If the binos are a match. I'm not a fan of trying new optics, they are usually noticably "less" than what I use. These were not, perfectly OK. By that I mean I see what I can find in my binos and I get get a clear view of the target and "twig obstructions". I've had Leupold mk4 and VX3 and similar fail catastrophic here: could not see animal. The price of poor optics can be your hunt, so I just stopped risking it.
So from these point and the initial reviews here, I'll deduce that the Revic binos add up to a good hunting tool at a good pricepoint. I would add it to my shortlist if I was in the market (right now my currency is devalued A LOT against everything, so not in the market for anything).

I'm also a Gunwerks fanboy and have hunted with Aaron twice. I really appreciate that there is a holistic company that works towards efficiency. (Aaron's behind the camera here)
By description, I fit the category of "influencer" so feel free to devalue my opinions

I have used the new Revic BLR 10‘s for two weeks now. So far so good!
I used them so far inside 500yds as far a ballistics go as I have shot 22RF PRS matches with them.
I did take them out to the farm and with a couple buddies we used them on the turtle population on the fishing lake there with our 22’s as well. I checked them glass wise against my Leica 8x32 Pro’s and today compared them to a buddies Vortex Viper HD’s as our tripods were next to each others.
I just tried to see detail at distances out to about 250 yds and honestly couldn’t say any one was better than the other.
The Leica being 8x was not a fair comparison but I still think the glass in the Revic is very good from my short time with it.
Just for information purposes I have owned two pair Sig 10K’s and the Swarovski TA RF’s and sold them all for different shortcomings for my uses. Yes I am a slow learner on the Sig’s….was hoping for a less blue pair I guess.😎
I like the Leica’s Pro’s BUT while they are fine for hunting they are slow on the ranging and giving you your data for the shot which in competition like NRL is not ideal.

Very thoughtful comments @THLR - I have been eyeing the Geovid Rs - your comments pretty much got me there.

I’m morbidly curious - have you ever compared the Nikon HG to the Geovid R?

Many thanks!

I compared the Revic again today with a new pair of Vortex Viper HD 10x and the Vortex Razor HD 10x
The Razors were definitely the best with the Viper HD and Revic being very close but definitely not the same detail or pop.
I had a friend over who has better eyes than I do and he said immediately the Razors were better to his eyes as well with the Vipers second and the Revic right there but not quite equal.

are they user friendly to someone who’s left eye dominant or do you get double vision / flicker of the display

I am left eye dominant and I have not noticed anything unusual about these compared to all the other RF binoculars.
Today ran them against the Vortex 5000 and as far as glass goes I said they were a tie but friend with younger eyes said Revic was better.
Revic was a tad faster on ranging but not by much.

Not much to update, binos have been used continuously since I received- on average 5-6 days a week. They have worked correctly and consistently while being the best performing Bino RF I have used.

How often do you have to change batteries? I've been through 4 batteries on my Geovid 3200.coms this year, and that's only using them maybe once per week on average.

Haven’t changed it yet.

Sorry, no.

I would suspect something is wrong. On my old Geovid I changed the CR2 (???) Lithium battery every second year. Due routine, not need. Never had a flat laser battery

I’m always using new stuff, but I’ve switched to this one.
Interesting ... pros and cons vs the Sitka? I seem to recall you had solid critiques of most of the other models around, so I'm curious what would make the SG better in your experience. Cheers!

Revic Binocular problem. My binoculars arrived yesterday and I loaded my rifle profile but my binoculars would not show the MOA solution. I called Gunwerks and they answered on the first ring. I was coached on how to do a firmware update and a few hours later my screen was unchanged so I assume the process was frozen or finished. I have spent the last few hours deleting the app, removing batteries etc. I got it to pair once more but it would not display the software version any longer. Now the binoculars will not pair with my phone. My last ditch effort is a long stint with no battery installed and try again. Is anyone aware of a hard reset on the binoculars?

*** Called Gunwerks again and they are working through it with me. Slight glitch with the iOS 16.6 that did not show up on an older device I had running 15.5. The binoculars are working with my profile now though. I do not mind problems with products when a company like Gunwerks answers the phone and sticks with you! Gunwerks gets a A+++ for customer service! ****
