Both of mine have killed their first deer at 7 and biggest bucks so far at age 10.
Our Rule was 7 to start shooting and can't shoot further than you can consistently group 3 shots inside 3" circle in preseason practice.
I love the Youth seasons before the general opener. Gives the kids a chance to shoot at less pressured animals which is good for kids and good for the animals in regard to ethical kills.
Starting them early is great, but I definitely see the fall out Dbags using the youth season to their advantage and not actually for the kids...I think those types of people are a minority in the hunting crowd...at least I hope that's true.

Nothing gives me more pride than watching my kids grow and accomplish these types things on their own.
Your doing it right OP, just wait till you watch the little one take their first animal on their own...nothing like it. Keep up the good work!

My son (5) isn’t quite ready for deer hunting yet, but he loves the outdoors and tagging along with me wherever I go. I hope his interest for the sport just keeps growing like it has been. We took this a couple weeks ago.
