Beware of Marketer2, he is a scammer

Bummer about the scam! Yeah, extra verification would've helped, like having him write your name and date on a piece of paper near the scope for proof

The guy has been here since 2019, kind of a long time for a scammer to be lurking. I wonder if a scammer hacked someone's account?!?
Yes, they look for old stale accounts and try passwords on them.

@mods, I wonder if it's possible to disable accounts with a 1 year of inactivity, maybe a forced password reset if inactive for a year if they attempt to login? That would mean the scammer would not be able to reset the password without access to the email and wouldn't be able to login.

My account got hacked a few months back. I was completely locked out. Took a bit of communication with the site admins to get back in and I figured that who whoever hacked it did so to scam people. Once I regained access to my account there were a bunch of PM’s, supposedly from me, trying to scam people.

Also interesting, in my initial communication, he said he lived in Mountain Home Idaho and I was going to be going through Boise to bear hunt. He was ok to meet up with me. I ended up not having time, and then several weeks later this happened. I know it is easy to monday morning quarterback, but there were a lot of things going on with this interaction that lead me to believe that it was legit
I am not trying to Monday Morning Quarterback anything. Just stating that photoshopping the name and date is easy and its not a good check anymore. There is also a very common address that is used to scam people that is based in Phoenix. I just hope that you didnt send it to there.

You are the one that said you may have gotten taken, I am just trying to help you see if you did. Also pointing out things that are not good tells for others, even if the person you are working with is legit.

Report, yes… had not thought about mods and an IP address
@Nicaburns If RS can provide the IP address to you and you have an officer or detective with the dept you filed with that is willing to do a little work in the form of drafting a warrant, you could get a physical addess. Not sure about your local laws but nowhere I can think of would the $700 threshold be a felony so maybe tough to motivate LE to put in that effort for a misdemeanor. Worth a shot though at least providing it.
And as someone above suggested, definitely file with Apple Pay. They may surprise you and make you whole and dock the account you sent it too. We got lucky a few years ago on a too-good-to-be-true yorkie pup scam.

Hate to hear this-pisses me off big time. We work very hard on keeping these pieces of garbage off of here, but the hacked accounts are even tougher as there is no notice.

It has been said sooooo many times-DO NOT pay anyone friends and family, unless they ARE YOUR FRIENDS OR FAMILY.

Well, the mods banned the account due to suspicion of scam and he won’t be able to get back in to get my shipping address if it is legit. So either way I am out $1500 I suspect. There has to be a way to suspend an account while investigating without completely banning someone to avoid stuff like this. Having said that, I understand why they would want to shut the account down so others don’t get scammed.

Yep, it's as easy as opening up your wallet and selecting the transaction. Once you've selected it you hit the payment, then hit Report an issue, then hit I need help with this transaction, you will then be directed to a chat where you can provide the information. At some point in the chat when I had an issue the bank called me directly to take care of more of the details.

I did that and they said there was nothing they would do… spoke to Apple and to the Bank behind them and they said file with the federal trade commission

How does Apple pay work, pulls from your bank account? Twice I've had PayPal refuse to resolve issues and I had my bank reverse the charges. First time was years ago and PayPal was ticked, locked my account. Second time was more recently and they just changed my dispute status to resolved and moved on. My bank didn't blink an eye.

This sucks, but I appreciate you sharing. I've been burned before myself. Good reminder to have a certain process in dealings and not skip it, even if a deal is really good or a person comes across as honest.
